Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by bjoern on Mar 22, 2018 16:28:16 GMT 1, I received mine last weekend and it's a really great installation at night, but there are a lot of things which concern me a little bit.
Qualitywise I am really dissapointed since there is a lot of dust in it, which could be easliy removed during quality control and they used plexi glass which has couple of small marks at the edges. (same with the ones friends of mine bought). Don't forget to mention there is no switch, you have to pull the plug all the time to switch it off. In addition to that there is only a one year warranty granted on this object which leaves me with the question what should I do when the laser is not longer working in two years (there is no discription of lifetime expectancy of the laser or how to exchange it).
Besides this and at night it is a stunning artwork

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by butterknife on Mar 22, 2018 23:20:46 GMT 1, You are welcome.
No, I have not disassembled my artwork.
Based on what I know about the technology, it is my opinion it would not be complicated to exchange laser unit if needed. I am quite comfortable in my ability to do so if/when required.
If the laser fails after one year of use, past warranty, I do not think you will have an option but to replace unit independently. I do not believe Ai Weiwei's studio will repair it for you. The Amsterdam Light Festival will probably be of little help also.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by samo on Mar 24, 2018 1:07:29 GMT 1, I picked-up mine about 2 1/2 weeks ago in the Hague at the studio of the artist who was responsible for the assembly of this Ai Weiwei edition. The laser has a lifespan of 6000 hours. In regards to replacing the laser light. They told me at the pick-up day, that everybody who bought this edition will receive written instructions in the near future via mail, but don't hold me to that.
I agree with bjoern7000 it's indeed a stunning artwork but it does come with a few flaws. Particularly the dust in the plexiglas box but also the outside of the box seems to attract dust. A word of cautions here. Be careful when cleaning the plexiglas box because plexiglas is very prone to scratching and can become static.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by samo on Mar 25, 2018 1:19:06 GMT 1, The laser light is USB powered. It comes with an Iphone-like power plug (5 volt 1000 mA). It's easy to power if they have supplied the correct US plug.

The glue has barely dried and it is already being flipped.

Yes true, but that's not the only one you find online already.. there are a few (even on ebay), going up to 15.000 - 16.000 Euro sometimes.. So the Phillips estimate seems quite low still.. Really curious were this ends up, could easily jump to 10k in my opinion
