Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by silvermyn on Aug 27, 2010 14:36:34 GMT 1, more than happy to accept cash paid into my account prior to collection - I'm just a little wary of someone ripping me off with fake notes Why don't you both just do the deal at a bank then? Lots of security, no fees, everyone can get what they want, no issues? If the seller isn't willing I wouldn't do the deal, but that is just me.
No issues until some dumb ass kid cycles into you on the high street smashing the frame and print.
Apart from that it's a good idea. **

Or just meet up for a pint and do the deal innit.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by nicsta on Aug 27, 2010 20:23:59 GMT 1, more than happy to go to a bank with the buyer and cash. I've had this conversation on pm and offered this as an option.
ok, its simple to me also....... agree a deal, i release my details, the prints details and the coa's details, you check me out with POW, we agree how payment is to be made.... either bank transfer or we go the bank together and release the print!
This seems to have got out of hand to me and escalated in to something it's not.

Depends Manty. I tend to be fairly trusting. Most high value spends at £10k+ I have wire transfered first prior to receipt and people have done likewise with me. Sometimes its just not possible to travel the globe. Key is good references that you actually know and contact.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by Deleted on Aug 27, 2010 21:08:54 GMT 1, I think face to face contact, with funds is best. I personally wouldn't wire £5K to someone I didn't know - that's nuts.
There comes a point where escrow (similar) adds value.
Back to the print - very rare (how many of the signed run actually still exist?) and how's it been framed, kept and so on.....

I understand this point but there are scenarios that you can or certainly I can be comfortable without actually knowing the person. If someone has had a high value successful transaction with someone or several people you do know then that works for me. I bought a Banksy canvas this very way and I did not know the seller at all. I guess what I am saying is do your homework.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by craigf on Aug 27, 2010 21:24:14 GMT 1, I'm with Neil re doing your homework, I have sent reasonably large amounts to ppl I have trusted without seeing / really knowing them (Neil was one of them and it went as smooth as silk and the piece is still on the wall ;D ). However you need to be 100% comfortable with the seller because if something goes wrong you will kick yourself big time!

Absolutely, references are one of the key functions this forum offers.
I have only met up with a few people when i have bought/sold/traded, the rest is done on trust, gut feel, & refs :-)

I'd be very interested in doing a deal for a few pieces from your collection hh!
Are we in danger of being inordinately hard on this new member? He's outlined a price to me (and I imagine others) by PM. There is a deal to be done if seller and buyer can find a consensus. (Unfortunately, I'm not in this one.)

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by Deleted on Aug 28, 2010 17:01:12 GMT 1, Well, mine sold for £1050 a few months ago, it was mint and framed since purchase by Art Republic, regretted it ever since......only consolation is that the buyer will give me first refusal if he ever sells (which I doubt he will.....).
£1500 is a tad aspirational I think but they don't come up all that often in 'as new' condition so who knows..........willing buyer / seller and all that.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by lazarus on Aug 28, 2010 19:25:12 GMT 1, Thanks for the feedback lurker, but you seem to bitterly regret your sale? Was that why you undersold it for £1050? So youve got first refusal? Yet my print price is a tad 'aspirational' at £450 more. Sorry fella, but i feel this is the going rate for wsm.

Nice hostility there. ;D
BTW, 1500 is not the going rate according to the last two recorded sales:

Well, expressobeans, like any tracking system is only as good as the data that's put into it. Does it catch every single sale? No. There's ebay sales that don't get registered, and sales between forum members, both here and on expressobeans don't always get added. Does it catch every shilled bid auction? No, but it's pretty easy to see which those are.
But it's probably the best source of archived prices out there.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by Deleted on Aug 28, 2010 21:41:00 GMT 1, I do regret the sale but at the time of sale there were multiple offers at £1050(some from 'galleries') but not a smidge higher. At the time, I needed the cash, but now I don't, hence the regret. It wasn't undersold, it was priced to market and yours is not on a prima facie basis.
C'est la vie - I know for a 100% fact that I will get first refusal on resale so that tempers my emotion.
So you don't agree that your price is aspirational, then good luck in achieving it - like I said in my original post, this is a rare print, I don't believe that there are anywhere near 600 unsigned still in circulation and they don't come up often - willing buyer/seller and so on.
You'll probably acheive more than I did if you're patient. There's a difference in selling into a 'cool' market than responding to a WTB WSM thread......
