Any NFL Fans?, by kaimac on Jan 22, 2018 0:03:44 GMT 1, I happen to disagree with that assessment, but can we please keep this thread about the on field stuff? Thanks. Human rights are a bit more important. You can't really separate the two. The NFL has taken a racist stand that requires ethical people to speak out and disrupt their discrimination.ย
So start a fucking human rights thread then. Jesus.

Amy Porterfield Levy, 10/11/2017 01:39 pm ET
If you are enraged by a black football player quietly kneeling during our national anthem, it is because you are a racist. I love you and you probably donโt realize this, but you are a racist. You may not want to admit that you are a racist but that is exactly whatโs going on here; deep inside, the source of your anger is bigotry. Trump and Pence are providing cover for you with the nonsense that the protests are about the military or the flag but this is about race and you are a racist who is being manipulated by other racists.
You: Fuck you. I am not a racist.
Take a deep breath and listen for a second because you are capable of self-reflection and you still have critical thinking skills left even after your Fox News lobotomy. You know that black athletes are not taking a knee to protest the military, the anthem, or the flag. Trump and Pence know this too but theyโre trying to save their own asses from landing in Gitmo. (Weโll put aside, for now, the fact that we have leaders who are investing some serious cash and effort into dividing the country along racial lines.) You are lying to yourself that your anger comes from your love of country and patriotism.
You: Itโs disrespectful. People have died for that flag!
No, they havenโt. Nobody has ever died for that fucking flag. (Yes, I called Old Glory โthat fucking flagโ - because I can.) Nobody dies for a flag except in schmaltzy country songs. American soldiers have fought and died for freedom, yes, but not for the flag. Remember freedom? Hannity babbles incessantly about it so you should be familiar with the term. Freedom is where the government canโt tell us what to think or how to worship or how to show our patriotism. Freedom is saying what we believe without fear of persecution from our own government. Freedom is not being forced to stand just because the President has his jackboot on the neck of your employer.
Freedom is the whole point of this country and the whole reason that countless men and women have died. They died so that those football players could take a knee. They certainly didnโt sacrifice themselves to see Vice-President LegoHeadโs sad attempt to force people into fake flag worship.
Lee Greenwood: ...and the flag still stands for freedom and they canโt take that awaaaaay!
See? Even Lee knows that the flag is a symbol and itโs the freedom part that they canโt take away. (Except that they are trying to take it away.)
You: If they donโt like it here, they should find another country!
Hey friend, โtheyโ are Americans, Americans who are silently asking not to be killed or treated differently because they are not white. They are Americans who are asking us, their fellow Americans, to look at them and hear what they are saying which is, โPLEASE STOP KILLING US BECAUSE WE ARE BLACK.โ Even if you totally disagree that black people are targeted by police more often than whites or even if you are an old idiot like Mike Ditka who thinks oppression has been over for a hundred years, why does a person asking not to be killed and to be treated fairly make you this furious?
Answer: Because heโs black and you are a racist.
You: something something mainstream media liberal blah blahโฆ
You are angry because a black man is making you uncomfortable during a football game, which is your time to drink beer. You are uncomfortable because, in your little racist head, you want him to shut up and entertain you and act grateful for the privilege of entertaining you. Hereโs the thing: no one is doing anything to you. Those football players are not doing anything but kneeling down during a song. They arenโt hurting you, disrupting the game, or making a mess. They arenโt even making noise. You are mad because you donโt want to think about racial injustice. Youโre mad because you think racial injustice is their own damn fault. And do you know why you think this?
Answer: Because you are a racist.
If you are so privileged that you think weโre past oppression, itโs on you to figure out why the people on that field donโt agree with you. They are trying to tell you something - so listen. The athletes who are protesting are doing it because they are in a position where they can have an impact, where they have power - where they can make you pay attention. They are protesting and asking for justice on behalf of the powerless. In a stadium, on national television, is the perfect place to bring to light something that is as important as asking for the right to live. If you are enraged by someone asking not to die, the problem is you, not the protestors.
It doesnโt matter if you agree or if youโre completely ignorant about the history of race in this country, please just listen to what these athletes are saying. Try to understand why they are risking their careers. Try to admit that perhaps there are things you donโt know about the reality of being black in America. Stop exploiting veterans and wrapping yourself in the flag to cover up the uncomfortable truth of your own prejudice.
If you love this country as much as you say you do, you will calm down and hear them out instead of trying to silence people who are just asking for justice. And if you love this country, you will try your hardest to stop being such a goddamned racist.

Khan, who also owns the English soccer club Fulham FC and made his fortune with the Illinois-based automotive manufacturer Flex-N-Gate, lamented that some fans have come to believe that supporting the playersโ First Amendment right to protest during the anthem is inconsistent with patriotism โ โwhich is crazyโ โ and that President Trump, to whose inaugural committee Khan was a $1 million donor, has been taking advantage of that situation. โI think what weโre seeing,โ Khan reportedly said at the Chicago event, โis the great divider overcoming the great uniter.โ Khan joined Jacksonville players on the sideline before a Sept. 24 game played in London, linking arms during the national anthem in a show of solidarity. Players have no First Amendment right to protest. First Amendment only applies to governmental entity restriction of speech.
They are employees. Employers are well within their rights to restrict speech during times of employment according to their designated standards.
This never should have been an issue, because the NFL should have shut it down day 1(they had the power within the collective bargaining agreement). Instead, under the failed leadership of their current commissioner, the NFL quickens their spiral downward.

Sure you can. Just like you can talk world cup football without talking about the horror of all the (mostly Chinese) lives being lost in Qatar to get them ready for it, or you can talk about hockey bring racist af.
It is possible. Try it. I created this thread to talk about the sport, not the politics.

Any NFL Fans?, by Street Art Fan on Jan 22, 2018 0:27:30 GMT 1, What a game!!!
Predicted beforehand that Jax - young, fast, aggressive, hungry - would win. Heading into the 4th, I thought they still had a chance. But if watching the NFL over the last 17 years has taught me anything, it's that you should NEVER pick against Brady and Belichick.
Rooting for my home team Philly to win tonight, but it's going to be close!

It won't change until people like you take a look at yourself and admit that you are probably a racist. If you don't like that about yourself you can work to change it. If you do like that about yourself then you are just a sh!tty person.

To think, he rode the bench in both college and the pros. From benchwarmer to greatest quarterback of all time. Wow.

Ya, same. I'm so sick of Brady.
Without your QB injury I'd have picked you tonight, but the Vikes D is brutal. Especially so given they're playing to play the Superbowl at home.

I want Philly to win, only to lose miserably in the Super Bowl. Philly fans are the worst human beings in the world and I'd enjoy their suffering.

I tried Sling for a bit and it was the same. Horrible lag, streams kept dying. Was better to use dodgy Asian streams tbh.

Any NFL Fans?, by kaimac on Jan 22, 2018 0:45:47 GMT 1, I just wanted to talk about the meatheads running into each other's faces. I think it takes a series of closed head injuries to understand- but I know people love some violence- Cleon Peterson Artwork!
I honestly don't see how the sport is still here in 20 years. It's so incredibly violent. The head to head hits are horrific.
The sport itself, tactics and strategy, is great, but the violence is def very real.

Any NFL Fans?, by kaimac on Jan 22, 2018 0:46:57 GMT 1, I tried Sling for a bit and it was the same. Horrible lag, streams kept dying. Was better to use dodgy I paid $30 for a month of Sling so that my young daughters could watch 'Teen Beach Movie II' on Disney Channel on its debut night.ย Wife and I did a whole theme party, special dinner and treats, etc. Well, Sling completely failed.ย That was the end of Sling for me.
Oh shit. End of days.

Any NFL Fans?, by mose on Jan 22, 2018 0:50:37 GMT 1, As a father of young kids, talking to other parents, no one is letting their children play football. It's nothing like it was when I was growing up. Local leagues are down 75% from their highs.

Made up for it with blueberry pancakes and a trip to grandma's in the morning(she has cable and the Disney channel).

No way will my son play.
Then again I do a lot of work in Texas, and it's still religion over there. I saw 14k for a highschool game last year. Nuts.

Couldn't believe it. I'm from New Jersey and my high school was famous for football in the 80's-90's. USA Today top rankings, perennial state champions, etc. Games may have had 300-400 people there.
When I moved down south it opened my eyes to what community support of sports really meant.

I'd like to get down to Charlotte to catch a race at the speedway. Looks like a ton of fun.
