A celebrated street artist punched his girlfriend in the face at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery after she accused him of cheating, a court heard.
Ben Eine, 47, swung his fist at Maria Claudine shortly after they arrived at the Hyde Park gallery, leaving her with a split lip, it was claimed.
Westminster magistrates were told Eine, real name Benjamin Flynn, had been persuaded by Ms Claudine to attend a private viewing of an exhibition by Turner prize winner Tomma Abts on June 6.
But the couple argued when she saw a picture of another woman on Eineโs phone and โjumped to conclusionsโ, the court heard. Ms Claudine told police Eine had grabbed her glasses and phone. She said she was trying to fix her glasses when he came up behind her. โHe punched me in the face โฆ in the mouth with a clenched fist, with some forceโ, she said. โI was bleeding from the mouth.โ
Prosecutor Jonathan Bryan told the court Eine, of Bermondsey, โhad been drinkingโ. London-born Eine, a twice-married father of seven, pleaded guilty yesterday to assault by beating and criminal damage.
His lawyer Robin Coleman said Ms Claudine had โjumped to conclusions โฆ She lost her temper and argued with him, and he lost his temper.โ
Sentencing was adjourned till July 17. Eine was released on bail.

I don't condone Ben's actions at all, but this does raise an interesting point. Some people are able to separate their love for the art from their love/dislike for the artist.
Stranger still is were we would draw that line and I guess we all draw it in different places.
How many of us would happily go to the Tate Picasso exhibition or would have a piece by him on their walls? Yet, he was known to be abusive towards women. This seems to be conveniently brushed aside. That said, I'm guessing most of us won't be collecting any Rolf Harris art in a hurry!
