I'm finding some of the reactions on this thread in very bad taste, we should never condone violence towards women (or anybody) but speculating on the circumstances and being spiteful won't help anyone.
I have never met Retna so have never commented on his behaviour or lack of since its absolutely none of my business. Although just for the record I genuinely hope that anybody that is struggling with addiction, anger or mental health issues reaches out and gets the help they need.

I would like to believe that as well, but I doubt many have signed Fat Albert prints in their flat files that are appreciating daily. Money seems be an efficient motivator of behavior.

I'll first state I definitely can't condone this behavior, and I would've been swinging at him had I been there. 0 tolerance for hitting women in any situation
That being said
It's bad for current career.. In ways.. But he sells semi affordable art in a way that I think a lot of people just buy the saying, not the artist.. He over produces, and still manages to sell.. This is 2018,people have short memories and there still isn't even a single post on Instagram under his hash tag regarding this. He simply isn't famous enough for this to go as worldwide news. Sure. The couple forums will discuss, but we're what, 5 percent of his new release market? And it's hard for people in a random Gallery to know this situation even happened..
Retna is different because he seems to buy into that lifestyle.. Publicize it, and sell a lot to the drugs and drama enjoying market.. He's like the Richard Rawlings of art.. But says "coke me" instead of "beer me"...
Modern Society puts this all in our face. Not buying into troubled artist syndrome, but just off basic human statistics, it's likely many, many of the past great artists did this and much worse...
I honestly unfortunately don't see this effecting his career.. And regarding Retna, I think his work Will have huge value long term after he's gone.. Makes the secondary market now look foolish. Ben, not so much. Just too much out there.. He's one of the few artists that I'd personally purchase a $500 print instead of a $5000 original.. Just so much out there, it's almost silly....
Cosby imo Is totally different. No offense, but your negating that a large portion of previous fans left his side long, long ago when he started speaking out about the truth regarding African American problems.. The liberal fan base left him that moment. Look up a few of his speeches staring 15 years ago or so.. That's what caused his show to come off TV reruns etc.. Unfortunately he wasn't allowed freedom of thought. Perhaps another person ahead of his time in that manor as many have been in the past.. Definitely a shit person in regards to women, but his career was long dead and all sponsorships basically lost long prior

It seems like the ultimate hypocrisy keeping his work in my little girls room. I really like his art but this is just astonishing especially when done at a public event. I have the Love postcards hanging in front of the toilet, but I don't think I'll be taking it down. Is this a reflection of how I feel about domestic violence? I don't think so. But if he were to murder a toddler, I feel that it would be heading straight for the trash. What does that say about me?

It is surprising though that people expect Street Artists to be upstanding citizens. Should we expect the art we hang on our walls to be a reflection of ourselves or the artist themselves or both? I just haven't read the story and don't know what the circumstances were. If it was self defense against a knife wielding lady who happened to be built like Andre the Giant and he was cornered, perhaps that might warrant it. Perhaps it would be a good idea to read the article.
