They use to rule. There needs to be a coachella reunion cash out system for artists just like there is for bands. Pay everyone out of ruining something great. I do not see what relevance it has to art or to making Banksy art even more valuable after this stunt.
Most of the people quoted in the mainstream press about it are dealers or galleries selling Banksy works.

It's a cheap publicity stunt and might have got Banksy some write ups as he appears to want to be mentioned regularly in the mainstream press for any reason.
Whether the value will go up after this stunt, i doubt it. Sothebys will say anything anyway. they don't care if people believe it at the time as are known to say they did not say such and such at a later date.
It might appeal to some wealthy Banksy investors but regarding other wealthy collectors who add art to their collections. This stunt could back fire and these people not take him seriously as an artist.

I was referring to this latest stunt by Banksy that's all and calling it a stunt for publicity which might make me a Banksy hater to you but to others it's an opinion about the publicity seeking stunt and it doesn't suit your own agenda which is probably that you met Banksy once and cannot say anything negative or seen to say anything negative publicly about his art or stunts. Picasso had a waiting list of clients and dealers who sold his art in the US. His pottery was very affordable in the limited editions and turned out to be a good investment long term.
Warhol did use the media for publicity. Mainly television and celebrity articles in papers and magazines showing his silver wig and posing with celebrities. He made screen prints of the rich and famous because he wanted to become as recognised and famous as they were. The approach back then was more innocent than it is today with two minute attention spans and social media and making a fast buck regardless of quality.
The Sothebys stunt gained attention mainly due to social media. Newspapers print sad dog stories every week or quirky stories so adding this Sothebys stunt gained some retweets etc for them.
If Banksy had the artwork artifically bid up to the record price before being shredded. I can see investors losing confidence in the real value of his art. Sothebys will have to come clean eventually.

how was it done? what happens now? the batteries? did sothebys know? great to see the rich being fucked over? who is this guy? why did he do it? i always knew the art world was a big scam? the emperor's new clothes? how did they get the artwork in? could they have got a bomb in, what happens now to the artwork? does the buyer have to pay? who are sothebys? do people really buy that s**t? How much!!!!!!
