Backdoor Banksy Prints, by Lazarus II on Sept 29, 2021 13:33:44 GMT 1, Honestly chap, I can't understand why you say you don't want to give 50 quid to PC on the chance that it might come to nothing...if I were you I would be see your 50 quid outlay as a 2 to 1 chance that it might give you a return of 30 grand! I would imagine a PC COA is the only way you have a chance of realising your print's potential worth if indeed it is authentic. Take the punt, but don't expect a quick turnaround in terms of a decision by PC he could crowdfund for the price of a COA with all who participate getting a share of any future sale๐

Either you have something worthless or spend 50 bucks to find it is worth a huge amount of money... 50 bucks

Well, in the speed PC is working, the piece will be worthless when he gets his COA anyway. Just look at the dropping market.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by Daniel Silk on Oct 6, 2021 5:57:57 GMT 1, Yeah, I think POW sent shops a few extra prints without numbers as gifts or possibly so they could pin them on the wall as a display. Unclear if they were ever meant to be sold, but I guess at the time POW werenโt bothered as the values were still low. If you had a receipt, maybe maybe pest control could sort you out a number, but thatโs if you were very lucky, and they were feeling generous.

After the past months, you seriously claim that Banksy prints "go up and down"? ๐
You clearly don't watch the market, prints get passed left right and center, go lower than even September last year, went down in total at least 25 % (probably way more by now).
And looking at that dropping market and the time PC takes to issue certificates, some people should really worry. The prints lose massive value while waiting for a COA. That sucks.

Funny that, while I waited for a Coa my print doubled in value.
BTW, I can't wait to see you outside Sothebys on 14th October protesting against the fraud sale of 'Love is in the bin' whilst wearing your finest shell suit. You tell em!

Some people will always worry.
A couple of years ago it was pretty difficult to buy a Banksy, the price went up massively, people cashed in, auction houses cashed in, supply eventually outstripped demand.
my thoughts are it will settle for a year or 3, and then..... ?

Can't believe that people still deny that the market crashes ๐ numbers talk for themselves. Sugarcoating the truth will only lose you more money.
Even in threads on this forum people realise how shit the market is since months. Recently 6 prints out of 15 passed. Yh that's a great result, shows how desperate people are to get a print (irony off)
Dumbass.
Edit : I never said I'll be outside Sotheby's. It's not needed either, Banksy goes down. I'd advise to check jps' page but you clearly check it regularly already ๐

To deny that the market dropped massively is simply stupid, you have to admit. Numbers don't lie.
A lot of people are jumping the ship already. Waiting for 3 years? Doubt that will help, guess you can bin the prints by then.

I agree, but is it fair to have people waiting for their COA (while prints are losing value)just to save their own market? So how can PC feel so mighty to decide who gets a COA now and who has to wait 5 months? Is that a fair and professional way to deal with it? Surely not. A COA should be issued when you buy a print. Not 2 years later after you pay a fee.

Itโs not fair I agree But how would the market be where it is for an unknown living artist without manipulation. The market is pretty amazing to be where it is when no one knows the artist or confirmed one individual has consistently produced the work. Manipulation is rife in the art world Prices will level out now, everyone had a very good run, all things donโt last for ever

Thanks for agreeing, I still think that people waiting for their COA aren't happy about this "manipulation". OH and Banksy is not one artist at all - and they aren't really anonymous. The brand is registered and they cash in their part on each resale (just Google artist royalty resale right).

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by Fairxat on Oct 7, 2021 21:33:05 GMT 1, Itโs not fair I agree But how would the market be where it is for an unknown living artist without manipulation. The market is pretty amazing to be where it is when no one knows the artist or confirmed one individual has consistently produced the work. Manipulation is rife in the art world Prices will level out now, everyone had a very good run, all things donโt last for ever Thanks for agreeing, I still think that people waiting for their COA aren't happy about this "manipulation". OH and Banksy is not one artist at all - and they aren't really anonymous. The brand is registered and they cash in their part on each resale (just Google artist royalty resale right).
By a few prints being passed a few times at various auctions, people can see automatic guaranteed sales at high prices are not the norm any more and will start to understand the delay in issuing certificates is benefiting them. People rushing now to get them are only looking to sell at the market highs and flood the market and further lower prices , they had 10 years previously to acquire a certificate

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by Deleted on Oct 7, 2021 22:10:50 GMT 1, if all the certificates were issued promptly the decrease in values will be even quicker and drastic, many more on the market all at once, there will many unsold if numerous of the same prints come available which will cause some to panic and pause the market I agree, but is it fair to have people waiting for their COA (while prints are losing value)just to save their own market? So how can PC feel so mighty to decide who gets a COA now and who has to wait 5 months? Is that a fair and professional way to deal with it? Surely not. A COA should be issued when you buy a print. Not 2 years later after you pay a fee.
How long did it take 3 years ago to get a COA? 5 Years ago? 10 years ago? They have always been slow, it's nothing new.

A friend of mine has just rediscovered a Banksy GWRB backdoor print (at his parents house) that he has owned for many years. PC not available.
The print has some issues from previous damaged framing.
I understand it is only worth what someone is prepared to pay, but does anyone have a ballpark figure please?
