Kaws market "reeling"?, by CREAM on Mar 10, 2019 13:24:10 GMT 1, What a terrible article. The only fact that is stated is his prices are up 260% and one "art advisors" opinion that hes not the next pollock. Ground breaking stuff.
Of course his prices wont go up forever but the chances his market turn to dust and he will be forgotten about anytime soon is rather short sited.

Kaws market "reeling"?, by Fast Eddie on Mar 10, 2019 16:17:19 GMT 1, Prices will go up as long as demand outpaces supply. Having said that, I am afraid I do not understand KAWS' artistic ethos nor what's the core of the demand side of his market.

Kaws market "reeling"?, by kuni on Mar 10, 2019 16:45:45 GMT 1, Prices will go up as long as demand outpaces supply. Having said that, I am afraid I do not understand KAWS' artistic ethos nor what's the core of the demand side of his market. To a large extent im in this same boat. For me, Kawsโ appeal is nearly all aesthetics, his art doesnโt elicit emotion beyond โthatโs really nice to look at and would look great in the den behind that Herman Miller chair.โ I donโt stop and ponder my existence the same way I might when I look I stand in front of a Rothko. Those are two extremes, and thereโs nothing wrong with aesthetics, and Iโll admit that aesthetically his work is clean and chaotic, at the same time, which I enjoy.
His market may have peaks and valleys but Iโd say at this point the floor is pretty well established.

Kaws market "reeling"?, by brazzy on Mar 10, 2019 18:35:04 GMT 1, Does this mean that someday I might be able to get a print at a price that isn't so ridiculous? Because if he's the next haring or something similar, that's probably not going to happen.
dude's work is pure kitsch, so you might as well sell your YSKIK for cost.

KAWS' transition to the fine art era began with his Gering & Lopez show in 2008 when he returned to the galleries for the first time in 5 years (Perrotin as well that year). He had three museum installations in 2011 including a full retro at Aldrich, showed at Mary Boone in 2013 in addition to showing at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Along the Way was installed at the Brooklyn Museum in 2015, museum show again in 2016 in Texas, and he's been showing with the blue-chip Skarstedt Gallery for a little while now.
IMO, there is no transition going on, he's been fine art for quite some time.
Also, with regards to collections, the Mugrabi family themselves own at least a dozen of his works at just one of their homes. I'd say serious people/collections have already given him more than just a once over.

Zoom out... a couple years is not a long time, and a couple of collections does not represent the market

If anyone wants to sell any prints please let me know. Where is the talent in ripping of cartoon caracters and cartoon art and changing it slightly with x's for the eyes and muffy ears?
As for unique in style. Other artists in the urban art genre have done a similar thing for years.
Kaws market and prices look to have been manipulated by some galleries or dealers.
