Artist with the most Art up for Resale?, by Daniel Silk on Jul 28, 2019 12:51:17 GMT 1, I was wondering, what Artist do you think currently has the highest percentage of their total official releases up for resale online at Galleries and Auction site?
When you look around it’s incredible how much Art is in stock at galleries and being put up ForSale on ebay and Auction Houses.

Artist with the most Art up for Resale?, by Deleted on Jul 28, 2019 13:46:29 GMT 1, The whole print market is about to do a correction very soon. Unless it's a Banksy, Hirst, Kaws or some big blue chip artist forget it for prints. Maybe some random artist will do well in their small fan groups but overall the art world pumped out way too many prints over the past few years. Also retail prices and editions numbers have doubled on each print recently as well.
Every artist is now selling a thousand dollar print, or more, every month while their originals are not doing well at all. This is a scam the galleries and artists are all doing right now with prints. Complexcon and these events exploited the print market; most people going to these events do not have the spending money for originals but have money for prints.
Now the market is oversaturated and I could see a massive drop in print prices coming very, very soon. Do remember, if you sell with an auction house the final price isn't want you get. You have to take away the Buyers Premium and fees to the auction house. If you look the print results in recent auctions; for most artist - not the blue chips - they have not done very well at all. People are now losing money on a lot of prints.
Harland Miller I wonder a lot about. His recent show did very poorly in Hong Kong and his original for most part don't sell very well. A few recently did ok in charity auctions but over all not so great. But for a guy who doesn't even reach a $1,000,000 in auction to charge $17k for prints is highway robbery. I love his work and the prints are stunning but it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. His print market is much much stronger in numbers than his originals and that's extremely strange. Manifold and Whitecube did a excellent job fooling a lot of people in spending big big bucks on prints when at the time they could have just got originals for not much more.
Unless Harland Miller somehow takes off, which in Asia this year was major flop, then his print price, like most other artist, simply don't make sense. A correction in this market should help fix all this on most artists. I think it would be good overall for the market if a correction came soon.

Artist with the most Art up for Resale?, by Express Post on Jul 28, 2019 14:32:31 GMT 1, It is more complex than that.
Partly depends on the artist and where their markets are.
At the moment people are following the money. Once the margins are gone, collectors and flippers will drop the artist super fast.
In general, people look to the axes of power NY/ldn for guidance. If there is no confidence, it has a downstream effect.
If developed nations aren't spending, don't expect developing nations to pick up the slack.
Prices for editions are becoming bonkers.

Would like an original at some point and will probably be a little more cautious there due to outlay

Sooner than you might think. People are loosing the run of themselves with 10/20k prints. Fine if you have cash to burn or you really like the image/artist.
There are super originals you can buy with 10/20k even from well known artists.

Artist with the most Art up for Resale?, by Deleted on Jul 28, 2019 17:00:38 GMT 1, Correction in the market??.. never going to happen in the real art world.
Martin whatson and the other z list artists that dominate this forum may go up , down or side ways but the big boys? No chance.
Millers prices are discussed every other day on here and they keep on rising.. This says so much more about the ‘opinions’ on here spouted as fact.
Very few on here with any clue on the real art market.

Very good post and my thoughts are when the next global financial crisis hits all the lesser artists prices will drop. Thesedays print prices are ridiculous for lesser artists, but more people are buying art due to social media, more people are investing also as other markets real estate , shares, bonds etc aren’t performing as good.
All healthy discussion and buy what you can afford and images you like.. shrigley worries me, been a few on here now selling their sets at cost etc.. I’d say his prints are over priced from the outset and I hate the way the gallery tiers he pricing.. I’m going to wait for his guitar print to fall so I can pick one up 😉

Pejac is the ultimate flip. Long term is unlikely but short term is 100% profit

Artist with the most Art up for Resale?, by Daniel Silk on Jul 29, 2019 0:09:40 GMT 1, Actually maybe my original question wasn't worded well, I wasn't talking about artists who's work resells for the most money, I meant the artist who has the most prints that are currently up for resale, the biggest percentage of their total art output.

Shepard Fairey Yeah, I would have thought Shep and Kaws would be near the top, maybe also Mr Brainwash? He certainly turns out a lot of work.
Actually maybe my original question wasn't worded well, I wasn't talking about artists who's work resells for the most money, I meant the artist who has the most prints that are currently up for resale, the biggest percentage of their total art output. Shepard Fairey Yeah, I would have thought Shep and Kaws would be near the top, maybe also Mr Brainwash? He certainly turns out a lot of work.

Artist with the most Art up for Resale?, by 19818914 on Jul 29, 2019 1:11:31 GMT 1, Ok now this will be interesting. I think Kaws falls off of the list here. But Shep is king by far. I also agree with brainwash. eBay has always been his second home.

Artist with the most Art up for Resale?, by Daniel Silk on Jul 29, 2019 1:21:14 GMT 1, Could that be why Banksy isn’t releasing anything, maybe he is nervous of what might happen, could he be watching closely artists like Kaws, Shepard Fairey and Mr Brainwash to see if there style of continuous releases eventually goes bust!

He, she, it, is smart as fuck. I think the controlling of the amount of prints released and the authentication process is what is keeping the values high.
