the project is giving opportunities to women that may not necessarily have the required skills before joining the project so they are gaining new skills which they benefit from and can use when out of the camp to gain employment.
With your line of thinking many women would be turned away and unable to gain new skills or earn the wages to purchase extra food/items for their children.
it is also helping many women’s mental health by giving them structure and companionship, can not imagine living in such conditions in the camp and the mental and social isolations that may occur although the camp may look overcrowded, there are issues of language barriers, social systems and barriers from homelands that have an impact on mental health unseen to outsiders.
The appeal is the product is organic, authentic and each piece is individually unique with the hand stitching and the individuals craft applied to the construction rather than a manufactured piece off the production line all identical.
The choice is up to the individual to purchase or not, plenty of others waiting for the opportunity to purchase, the main point is the money going towards the refugees to benefit their lives in a positive way.
When these first came out I thought the object was insensitive as potentially the life jackets used may have been worn by individuals that may have drowned then to use on a mat to wipe your feet, as many of the refugees homelands the soles of your feet are seen as dirty and an insult, the idea of the mat to wipe dirty feet on someone’s soul.as it is a art piece subjective meanings can be interpreted differently but mostly seen here the value is the appeal

actually its was sent  via royal mail with a tracking #  . they   sent me a  email feb of  2020 and i recived the  item  via  US  post man  3/3/20 ( 1  year today)   time  sure does fly.   yup they sent tracking and  you could track it online.  Tracking # still works.

It is well documented that very, very many of these women have been forced from their homes to flee from conflict and persecution. The UNHCR do not consider that a choice, but rather a consequence of being in fear for their lives. This distinction means they are therefore classed as refugees and not immigrants.
