Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Charlie Bronson on Feb 19, 2021 16:33:06 GMT 1, Valid point. Imho the love for Banksquiat by newer B fans has more to do with the prospect of financial gain and life changing money than the actual image. Iโd bet for most, if not all, the only reason new followers/fans have shown up is the financials, otherwise they wouldโve been here, with us, years ago. Not exactly, it is so much more than that, and it speaks to the present. An img playing homage to the radiant child, a black, world wide famously known, born from Puerto Rican and Haitian parents, brooklyn nyc bred artist..by banksy? Turn around and look at the present tsunami wave
I disagree. New fans are going crazy over a print of a ferris wheel, some shitty looking cushions with a silly phrase on them, a simple spray can and a print that shits on people for buying his art. Although I love your outlook on the reasons, I donโt share that same positive interpretation as the reason for the influx of new fans. Iโve been looking at the tsunami wave. Itโs financial, not emotional.

Thanks for your advice for me to do more research, Iโll pass. Iโve done plenty. To think that new fans of B are here because of a radiant child piece is hilarious. You do more research, and youโll find that your perspective is not up to date with reality. Bโs recent work isnโt any more political than his work of the past 20 years; imho itโs less. With that being said, why would there suddenly be an influx of new fans, when his work isnโt any better or more politically motivated than before, and the only thing thatโs new is the crazy price increases and opportunity for people to win his work via the GDP lottery? Itโs obviously for financial reasons. To deny the fact that the main reason new fans have emerged, and the main reason Banksyโs work is being discussed more than ever, isnโt financial, is hilarious.
โWhat moves the marketsโ....yeah, thatโs money, literally. But, youโre entitled to an opinion, as am I. Just save the advice for someone who wants or needs it.

UAA is not the center of the world. In my case, I won a Banksquiat. I was searching in internet for news regarding the shipment and then, and only then, I found that forum. I really liked it and I stayed I know several other people with the same story
So, we, the lucky winners (who besides, in your opinion seems we didnโt like Banksy as we were not in the forum), are guilty for the crazy rise of prices in 2020?? People spending 620ยฃ in a Banksy print?
I think you are wrong

Thereโs obviously been an influx of new Banksy fans, not old-school fans who just happen to not be a part of this forum(which I know there are plenty of). Those new fans, for the most part, are fans now because of financial reasons, not appreciation of his work. We are discussing new fans, not new to the forum fans. Regardless, itโs Friday, Iโm not trying to argue with anyone and to be honest iโm a bit drained at the moment. Have a good weekend and enjoy your amazing print.

Those new fans, for the most part, are fans now because of financial reasons, not appreciation of his work. We are discussing new fans, not new to the forum fans. I'm not so sure. I'm a member on a FB fan group. Half a million members, all 'fans' of the artist in varying degrees- not many 'collectors'and even fewer 'investors' The vast majority might buy an Etsy photocanvas of a streetwork, or a GWRB wallsticker. Or own Wall and Piece. Occasionally there's a GWRB tattoo. But that's as far as it goes. They're in the group for the art, not money. The reason for increase in interest prob came from Exit Through The Gift Shop, and the increased press coverage in 2019 from Love Is In The Bin definitely made a big difference. The PR machine drives interest across the board, and naturally investment interest will follow, but it's not "for the most part" money people, I don't think. Valid points. I guess all Iโm trying to say is, in my opinion, part of the engine that drives the band wagon is financially motivated.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Fะฏ on Mar 19, 2021 15:51:47 GMT 1, artylang, i would be very interested to know what you have to back that up... I love easy questions! Without a doubt Banksy brought worldwide attention to a flourishing scene, but 3-8kusd for a large editioned screen print that is less than a year old! N-word please! Non-sense. One lesson I never forgot in my economics course was "opportunity cost". What else could you buy for that same money. Now since the way the original poster phrased the question leads one to think strictly in terms of investment, it is very hard to justify the prices for most of his editions. You cant turn around without tripping over another artist which you could buy for similar money that will have exponentially greater growth over the long term (strictly talking Banksy prints vs other artist originals. Banksy originals are another conversation). Im not going to start naming artists, but let's say that the only reason I have been able to afford an art collection is because of people over paying for signed Banksy prints I was fortunate enough to buy at source. While I love the works I have on my walls and get a ton of non-monetary fulfillment from them on a daily basis, there is no doubt in my mind that selling those prints to buy what I collect was a no brainer investment wise. Time will tell of course, but I am very confident that investment wise I made very wise decisions. More so, the enjoyment I get living with the unique works or art I was able to buy, is, without trying to sound corny, f**king priceless. would love to hear others chime in on this. Seems it could be an interesting debate. Furthermore, I think Banksy would approve of what Ive done. After all, his work turned me into a life long art appreciator and collector. It has allowed me to support other artists' careers and watch the flourish. Ill also add, these stupid POW lotteries have made it very difficult for me to add to my collection in the recent past...Bring back the old school bun fight where I had a chance. oof.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by dirtypete on Mar 19, 2021 16:22:20 GMT 1, I actually thought this was a new thread until I saw the prices discussed!
Some interesting predictions a while some people spotted the opportunity I donโt think anyone thought that Banksy would get the current level.
Itโs nice to see people having a well thought out discussion, compared to the slanging matches which seem to happen these days. I certainly wouldnโt have predicted that people would become more hostile on Internet forums. I blame Twitter!

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by sgolby on Mar 19, 2021 18:45:08 GMT 1, I don't think you can compare them at all. What makes banksy unique is the size of his editions. The fact that editions of 600 are going for 60K in the case of the rats is unheard of and never seen before tbh. These prices will hold as long as people want to pay these prices. Honestly speaking his work is overpriced in certain instances, and likely underpriced in others.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by mose on Mar 20, 2021 4:18:20 GMT 1, Was his post wrong? Not terribly so. It was a logical conclusion based on evidence present at the time.
What it didn't foresee was the art-world shift to Instagram, the manipulation in the Banksy print market by large inventory holders in order to run up prices, the choking off of supply by Pest Control/Banksy inc., and the dramatic run-up in collectibles market over the last year (that has less to do with inherent value of collectibles and more to do with both crypto money and with general social malaise/a trend towards infantilism).
When you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras. That is true the vast majority of the time. Occasionally, it is a zebra. Occasionally, you get how the Banksy market turned out.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by mose on Mar 20, 2021 4:37:43 GMT 1, Source for 'Banksy has now overtaken Warhol in the print market'. It's a rather incredible claim that I find very hard to believe.
With Basquiat, you have to differentiate prints done during his lifetime and 'estate authorized' posthumous money grabs. An edition of 24 Basquiat 'Back of the Neck' made in 83 went for about $875k last year. What may be the crown jewel of Basquiat prints, 'Tuxedo' a silkscreen on canvas that is absolutely enormous at like 100" by 60", doesn't appear to have sold at auction in a while, but was a million dollars 9 years ago.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Balboa on Mar 20, 2021 8:51:15 GMT 1, Was his post wrong? Occasionally, you get how the Banksy market turned out.ย ย
If youโre referring to the CYW post then yes, the post was massively wrong.
It was stated categorically that they wonโt be worth as much in ten years. Ten years on and they are worth at least ten times as much.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by Fuzzyduck121 on Mar 20, 2021 8:59:38 GMT 1, There's a S&S due to finish on ebay in 5 minutes at around ยฃ2700. its not mine but if it finishes around there for a signed single edition of 500 I would say that Banksy is both affordable and not overpriced as a genre leading artist. Discuss
Well I guess I was correct
