Christie's Art Auctions , by 18921892 on Mar 22, 2021 14:45:07 GMT 1, Underwhelming sale generally, should have stuck the Game Changer painting into that sale to spice it up a bit Apart from the canvas and the NOLA it’s all the same. LIITA, albeit signed, is in pretty much every Banksy auction now. Agreed the Heavy Weaponry canvas is the highlight of this auction. I'd much rather have the HW than a, cyw, gwb or liita print. I think people now want something a little bit more special than a print and these edition canvases separate the print owners and the original owners.

Not much action so far in the bidding.. then again, its what they finish at not what they start at

Christie's Art Auctions , by tab1 on Mar 22, 2021 22:01:39 GMT 1, Some of the early prints were £25/£30 and were treated in a manner of cheap disposable posters, not collectible prints, many threads over the years of selotaped, glued, blue tacked, pinned prints, glued to backboards etc, many ruined, Some not in existence anymore. Remember also many threads of prints were given away as presents to individuals that would not have a keen interest in Banksy as the small following he had when he first released prints, hence these are probably lost, also they were popular with the student crowd at the time who were some of the originally owners. Hence also the reason why sales ends v2 will not match the older prints in value as a lot more in existence and mint

Thank you. I managed to find it via 2 or 3 links. Could be a bit of a bun fight auction...LIITA already at 380k, it wouldn't surprise me to see this hammer above 600k after this weeks madness!

I believe the lots close from 2pm on 30th Mar; approximately at 1 min intervals. Though the timer gets extended each time someone bids like the similar Sotheby’s one was done.

Christie's Art Auctions , by dzigavertov on Mar 28, 2021 8:23:48 GMT 1, I have got a print in this sale and expected a bit more activity thus far with only two days left, but like someone posted above, it is where the bidding ends that matters, not where it starts. I was surprised by the high starting bids on the unsigned prints (mine is U/S), but the curator from Christie's reckons Sothebys always start way lower than the reserve price, whereas Christie's start bidding at the reserve and are much more realistic about their estimates than Sothebys are. I am not convinced that mine will do as well as the guy led me to believe, but at the end of the day, I have had a bid on mine and I said at the start that if it sells at reserve I gotta be happy because I paid 75 quid for it from POW. I wonder if the market may cool for a while after this sale . Unsigned prints have doubled in price since lockdown, wondering if the value may plateau for a good while. This auction should be a good litmus test to at least gauge some idea of where the market is heading in the short term. After a week of the sale and seeing so few having bids I asked the curator if sale activity was where he thought it would be and he said it was exactly where he thought it would be - he also said that after Game Changer sold, there would be a bit of a bidding frenzy....that certainly hasn't materialised yet

It is surprisingly slow and given the auction has been going for 12 days already, amazing a few still dont have a single bid. However, they are high starts in the first place. Results should be fine.... its Christie's afterall who are currently in the Banksy limelight after Game Changer, so I suspect there will be a bit of a frenzy for some prints in the closing minutes and time extensions. Good luck with your sale.

I think there are some pretty high “advanced” bids in this auction, especially on signed. Sure there are also pieces with no bids yet but I don’t think there’s a massive correlation between early bidding and final results - it’s all down to the last 2 mins.
Overall the market certainly isn’t looking weaker. Quite the opposite if anything.

Nobody with a Ricky Lafleur avatar is bad in my books, but when you come to know a member by 1 common post subject, it's time for them to change the record.

As said prior, totally different strategy from the Sothebys low est / start prices..drawing people in
im sure they will say they no best but going to be interesting to see

Up until about 18-24 months ago most of Bobbys posts were telling us that unsigned Bankay prints were worthless pieces of tatt.
They're still worthless repros. What would make you think that? Would it be his 200 mentions of how "under-valued" and "iconic" a piece it is? Nobody with a Ricky Lafleur avatar is bad in my books, but when you come to know a member by 1 common post subject, it's time for them to change the record. to be fair he did the change the record. Christie's Art Auctions , by robo on Mar 29, 2021 15:01:58 GMT 1, I bet a few of the people at Christies will be sweating quite a bit at the minimal amount of opening bids they have received on a large percentage of the prints Over 70% of the lots in the Banksy sale have opening bids - you guys are just trying to talk it down right?

I really don’t think people are actively trying to talk it down. About 24 hours to go and what happens next will ultimately matter, but even for auctions with high starts there has usually been lazy bids by this point. I think it will all end up fine and good, it’s just a bit different than some of the past auctions. The thrower is doing very well and gwb got another bid in the last day or so. Bit surprised HW still sitting 170, but that number won’t hold.
the hypothetical is would a buyer have thrown in reserve bids after days of inactivity so they’re in place for low interest or do they say they’ll bid at the buzzer and risk someone else gets in before if a piece were to go at reserve. It’ll all be a moot point a day from now.
I think everything gets a bid. Maybe the red dot nola struggles, who knows, probably not.
