Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by coller on Sept 18, 2020 17:16:30 GMT 1, there will be more banksquiats coming out of the woodwork, given the way things are going. there are 600 of them after all. i'm sure we will see a few thrower triptychs too, and maybe even some of the rarer GDP pieces. we'll see what happens! I think a lot of people will be selling now - it's life changing money. It's sad as the ownership base of his prints is going to migrate to the super rich. It's awful in fact. i mostly agree, but like to view it from a glass half full standpoint, especially re: GDP.
the GDP terms stated that banksy was trying to get the items into the hands of lower income families.
seems like banksy found a great way to reward lower income art fans and provide them with a much-needed windfall in case an emergency comes up (or if they would simply like to better their life).
that story of the NHS worker selling her GWRB and getting what appeared to be half a million quid was great.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by Arty Farty 15 on Sept 18, 2020 18:10:36 GMT 1, It's the quietest this forum has been for a while - defo in a state of shock.
Yep! More people on this forum have owned a banksy and sold their precious banksy, compared to those who still actually own one. It must hurt.

And those that kept saying the market is overpriced and waiting to buy the following year A lot of forum members sold when prints were 3k-7k for unsigned which at the time with all the negativity around unsigned prints That are not worth much was great at the time , but these latest prices are astonishing ! Itโs the v2 owners that if waited a few more months would of gained an extra ยฃ20k!

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by bob60 on Sept 18, 2020 19:44:47 GMT 1, Apologies but Iโm confused. Are the sold prices today the hammer price or the price with all of the added fees included? I think last weeks auction showed the hammer price.

Then you have to add the VAT on the 26% an then 4% ARR.

To the average person the money is getting too high to be worth keeping a little bit of paper on the wall! Your right Aza, I'm struggling to see that much money on the wall. a nice family holiday, classic car (MGA!) and some nice treats for just one piece of paper that cost ยฃ450! very tempting. Gotta remember that dreaded Capital Gains Tax though, thats a big cheque to right to HMRC!!, and i don't think you can avoid it.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by kaos on Sept 18, 2020 21:26:50 GMT 1, Personally I have always thought that LIITA is a better and stronger image than GWRB. It's also more Banksy than GWRB. The latter is a delicate piece with a very personal message and the former has a strong in your face political message. It cannot be more Banksy. I for one am very pleased to see the price adjustment between these two pieces. I know art is subjective and many people will disagree, that's ok. That's why we love art, it moves us in different ways. My two pennies worth.

In the UK currently annual tax free cgt allowance of just over ยฃ12k, then either 10 or 20% depending on your income tax band. Rumours are It is likely to be reformed sometime soon.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by vandamme on Sept 18, 2020 21:35:21 GMT 1, Wow I'm blown away. I haven't been on the forum for a while and to return to the Banksy frenzy is incredible.
There will be a lot of forum members that will be celebrating tonight and the thought of cashing in now will be a serious thought for many... Although things could continue to go up, who knows.
What I would love to know though?? is if an unsgned LIITA sold for ยฃ214,000 and by the sounds of it was in bad conditionย Also a signed GWRB sold for ยฃ438,000 Where does that put a signed LIITA in excellent condition.

Thanks I don't pay tax as I retired young so don't earn enough to go over my yearly tax allowance. So if I sold a print for say ยฃ60.000 would I pay 10% minus the ยฃ12k CGT allowance?
