I bought a small canvas from a car boot sale a few weeks back. It is not in the best condition and shows signs of mould on the back. The woman selling it said she didn't know much about it but said it was probably from an ex partner and was having a big clear out.
I spent all of 5 seconds looking at it before asking how much she wanted? I paid five pounds.
After walking away I had a better look at it and could see that it had definitely been hand painted (not just a printed type image) but has nothing written on the back at all, which i would expect from a real canvas.
Looking at pest control, there is a 100 pounds charge to authenticate works and obviously I'd rather not pay that and send it off if it doesn't stand a chance of being a real one.
What do you think? Joke type copy or possibly a Banksy? Im not stupid, I know its probably a joke painting but for a fiver i'm still happy to put in on the wall. I just want to rule out it being worth a trillion pounds without the embarrassment and cost of sending to pest control.

I would love to use this one as a gimmick gift to a friend who always laughs at my efforts on being funny in this forum but looked a bit puzzled when I told him what Banksy prints are fetching at the moment :-)

The frame certainly looks more robust than you'd expect from a cheap copy? What are the dimensions? That might give a better idea of its authenticity.

I have had a few messages regarding more pics but im going to send it all off to pest control tonight and leave it at that for now. Real or fake, ill let you all know asap.. Im not even letting myself think it may be a real one as the chances of that are stupidly slim I know!

The red background looks painted but the actual monkey is sprayed, you can see that more clearly up close and on the lettering especially.

There must be ten years of dust on the top of it so at least it wasn't painted a month ago if nothing else.
