It is not in the best condition and shows signs of mould on the back. The woman selling it said she didn't know much about it but said it was probably from an ex partner and was having a big clear out. I spent all of 5 seconds looking at it before asking how much she wanted? I paid five pounds. After walking away I had a better look at it and could see that it had definitely been hand painted (not just a printed type image) but has nothing written on the back at all, which i would expect from a real canvas. Looking at pest control, there is a 100 pounds charge to authenticate works and obviously I'd rather not pay that and send it off if it doesn't stand a chance of being a real one. What do you think? Joke type copy or possibly a Banksy? Im not stupid, I know its probably a joke painting but for a fiver i'm still happy to put in on the wall. I just want to rule out it being worth a trillion pounds without the embarrassment and cost of sending to pest control.

Someone should add some voting buttons for fake or fortune to add to the excitement.
I bought a picture around 5 years ago that I thought was valuable from a charity shop, it turned out to be repro but am old one. The framing was really old and in that interim time when you are looking into it's provenance it's pretty damn exciting.

My initial thought was not real, lines too crisp and detailed around the top of head, and the buttons are a different shape. But then I would've said the old man in New York's canvasses were fake had I not seen the film.

1. Fake.
2. Send it in for inspection
I don't think they'll say it's real 100% from photos alone. There's too much at stake and no trail.
Good luck, be sure to have a spare set of underwear with you before reading the reply from PC, you may well sh*t yourself.

A quick Google would have alerted the previous owner to possible value if it is real. Unless a load of cheap copies showed up when searching. It has the tag and name on it so you couldn't get an easier piece to do a bit of research on.

If it was real her ex would've been banging down the door 10-12 years ago to get it back. She would know it had value.
My guess is her ex made it or had it made as a cheap and cheerful tribute to hang on the wall, and she knew it wasn't real, so ยฃ5 in that case is a big win.
