Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by rebelate on Nov 18, 2015 3:23:28 GMT 1, Hi all,
Looking for an art shipping service to ship a 30x40 piece from Florida to California.
Was wondering if anyone in the states may have some art currier services they have had positive experiences with. I would most likely want them to package, insure and ship it in order to keep it all under one roof.
Thanks!

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by tone on Nov 25, 2015 7:41:35 GMT 1, I received a banksy from a paddle8 auction not to long ago that was shipped flat from the uk. Pretty much what they did was a wood crate insulated with styrofoam. The print was covered with craft paper folded like an envelope that was attached to foam board. The foam board was covered on both sides with cardboard. Then sealed on all sides with tape. Then the corners where protected with plastic inserts then taped again. Took a good 40 minutes to get her completely unpacked but showed up mint even with slight damage to the wood crate. Hope that helps or at least sends you down the right path.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by tinku on Dec 4, 2015 16:58:22 GMT 1, Hi all,
I wanted to know if any of you has any experience/advice regarding the international shipment of a fragile sculpture. I need to know wether it is possible to ship a box-shaped piece containing fragile elements (like light bulbs), or if that would be too risky. If possible, could you recommend me any courier company/service?
Thanks in advance. Best, Tinku

So, in order to wrap the light bulbs, the piece would have to be opened to remove the wrap after delivery. Did you mean wrapping up every individual bulb or you think that by wrapping the entire piece well enough that would make it?

Flight Logistics offer an art shipping service for fragile stuff - check out their website. I can't comment on if they are good or not although i should be able to confirm in a couple of weeks if what I receive arrives in one piece or 10 pieces.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by Poster Bob on Dec 14, 2015 10:52:17 GMT 1, Here's how I do it:
Wrap the print in acid free tissue paper. Wrap that in acid free kraft, taping down the kraft to hold it. Use pocket corners to tape that down onto a larger board. Sandwich the board in between two larger pieces of thin ply wood. Sandwich that in between two large pieces of very thick cardboard. Tape the hell out of it. Voila.

Spot on. The plywood being the most important ingredient. And use tape that bears the word "fragile" as much as possible.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by docholiday on Dec 23, 2015 15:22:58 GMT 1, docholiday have you used these? Are they worth the price? Yes, I had a larger Futura print shipped in one. The are pricey, but very heavy duty/sturdy. You still need to make sure to secure the print correctly within it, but its pretty straight forward.
For me, the peace of mind of getting the print properly packed and shipped overseas was worth the cost.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by tinku on Mar 22, 2016 15:15:10 GMT 1, Hi everyone,
Does anyone have experience shipping stretched paintings (on canvas) to the EU? I know there are some regulations on wood, and I was wondering if they also apply to stretchers, etc. (due to their relatively small volume) or if it is safe to assume the piece will arrive to its destination, as the shipping costs are quite high and getting the pieces shipped back would be terrible.
What are your recommendations/thoughts?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by Deleted on Mar 22, 2016 19:00:56 GMT 1, No problem as far as I know.
The EU countries have standard customs procedures. As long as the exact contents are declared and written clearly on the carton or package. The customs are usually fine.
It's when someone sends a package and the information on the customs document is vague that the customs have to make a decision whether to open the package or delay it before doing checks to verify the sender.
If shipping paintings stretched. I would put them in a thin plywood box or at least put thin plywood either side and tape it securely and then corrugated carboard on top and tape it very well.
A detailed description of the contents, declared value etc adds to smooth shipping.
I know buyers don't like paying high shipping costs but unfortuantely thats the price these days and artists don't benefit.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by poofly on Apr 5, 2016 12:37:01 GMT 1, Hi guys,
I recently sold a framed print on ebay, but I made a boo-boo of the shipping and put ยฃ100 for shipping (I had also listed an unframed print earlier and had just selected 'sell another item like this' without changing the shipping cost)
The buyer went and paid up instantly and it was then that I realised my mistake.
Since contacting Art Logistics, they came back with a price of ยฃ500 via DHL, and ยฃ1000 for them to handle it.
pretty much fucked the show.
I've spoken with the buyer and suggested it be deframed and sent in a tube, but obviously that isn;t the best option for him.
Anyone got any recommendations?

You've been honest with the seller and apologised for the listing error. I'd request to cancel transaction due to listing error and relist? You can't accept losing out on that much money even if the error was yours. Worst case scenario, you get bad feedback but any honest ebayer should accept your explanation, even if they're disappointed.

I would inform the buyer of their options:
(1) Mutually agree to cancel the transaction (2) Have the print unframed and sent in a tube (3) Pay the excess for shipping over the obvious error in the listing

Unless you're prepared to swallow the additional costs or come to other arrangement with the buyer I think you have little option but to cancel the transaction and swallow whatever feedback the buyer gives you.
It was a genuine mistake so you just have to hope your buyer sees it as such
