Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by Nick on Apr 5, 2016 14:41:43 GMT 1, Why pay them ยฃ1000 handling to use a DHL service at an additional ยฃ500.
If it is glass you might need an agent who is adept at packaging but ยฃ1000 seems absurd. You can have a custom crate built for far less than that. So does ยฃ500 for shipping.
If plexi, do it yourself with lots of bubble wrap and cardboard.
Only send with DHL, as they are the only courier where art is not on the prohibited list of items. If it's over ยฃ5k they also wont insure you.
And for the best possible quote go through courierpoint.com or randlogistics.com in my opinion.
An example, I just sent a big old package to Japan (volumetric weight of 26 kilos and 91cm x91cm x15cm). Direct quote insured to ยฃ2k with DHL was ยฃ280, with courierpoint using DHL ยฃ190 and Rand using DHL ยฃ140.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by poofly on Apr 6, 2016 10:54:09 GMT 1, its Plexiglass so easier to ship.
Pretty sure I can knock up a box myself, or just buy a roll of bubblewrap and drown it in that.
Will try a few of the suggestions, see if I can get it down.
Thanks guys...

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by FFF on Oct 17, 2016 15:49:23 GMT 1, Hey guys,
I asked a friend to purchase a print for me in LA over the weekend (it's actually my first acquisition, so I'm pretty stoked), but I need some advice on how to ship it. Are there any trusted methods to ensure the print is not bent/damaged in transportation, or is it best for me to wait until my next trip to LA to bring it back myself?
Thanks!

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by energy on Oct 17, 2016 18:56:11 GMT 1, Most all prints are sent rolled. The recent flat packed prints from Pejac caused an uproar because a lot were received damaged. So if sending flat be prepared to spend on packaging.
It'd have to be some special print for the value to be reduced by sending it rolled.
They should always be stored flat.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by Deleted on Nov 29, 2016 19:04:02 GMT 1, My experience with Flight LG had been different than most. Of the 3 times that I have used them I have received 3 damaged pieces. All 3 due to Flight LG mishandling during pickup and packaging. All insured of course.
Dealing with an insurance claim through them is also a huge challenge as they are not nearly as responsive as when they are arranging shipping.
I would say use them to ship as their crating is first rate (I still will) but have someone you trust take care of the actual handling and internal packaging of the artwork.

I always packed my framed stuff pretty securely, as i can well do without hassle, so bubble wrap, 3/4" ply, tissue, CLS, then wrapped, then sent in whatever they pack it in

If high value, use a crate. Don't wrap bubble wrap directly on to the canvas. It marks it. Especially oil paint. If low value, I would use two pieces of ply to protect it.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by Aza on Dec 15, 2016 18:32:35 GMT 1, I cover the the painted surface with acid free tissue, then use canvas corner protectors. Then I have ply wood cut to the canvas size and sandwich it between 2 sheets of play. Tape that together. Then wrap all that in a big roll of bubble wrap. Then parcel tape round all of it. Never had a canvas arrived damaged so far.

Shipping Art โข UK, USA, Asia, Europe, Australia, by Aza on Dec 18, 2016 14:43:21 GMT 1, Well to be honest I have had one time where it did scratch off a bit of paint, but that may have been me when I slid it on. I am now a lot more careful. I use the stiff plastic ones, but you can get nice foam ones, but they are much bigger and will increase the overall size of your package.
