Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by 2badmice on Jun 14, 2014 13:43:06 GMT 1, I have used Graham but it was not great job (flattening); he left some marks on the print probably from the press by the look of it, so would appreciate another conserver if anyone knows of one. He has a monopoly at the moment also, although cheap he has a bad opinion of street work and I don't believe he has respect when working on what he regards as inferior art.

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by Deleted on Jun 14, 2014 13:55:43 GMT 1, If it's a smallish job, I'd like to have a crack at it myself. I've had a varying degree of success - the latest project is to try and untangle my 'Flags' after the wife shredded it by accident (so she said) Ahhhh that was painful to read

This woman works as a conservator for the Museum of London see her site. I had some prints a couple of years ago that were damaged by Cadogan Tate the art shippers that I bought at auction. They wanted to send them to her for repair. As it happened after a big row they actually paid me my cost of the prints etc. so I have never had any contact with this lady but they did send me her CV which was very impressive so may be worth talking to. She lists Banksy prints on there etc no idea on costs etc or timescales

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by Bbb on Jun 26, 2014 15:24:09 GMT 1, hey,
thought i would ask here rather than just google for art restorer's.
I recently got a print framed (rather expensively), and have noticed ripple'ing of the print under the frame. Unfortunate that it has happened but it is limiting my enjoyment of the print.
can anyone recommend an art restorer SE/ London based, who will open the frame up, remove the ripple effect and put it all back together nicely at a reasonable cost and has a good reputation?
thank you for any helpful advice

Any reputable framer can take a look at it and tell you what needs to be done, or you can post a photo of it here and someone can let you know what to do. If it is floated it will have some rippling but putting a mat on it will help. Can you post a photo?
Also if you do not like it, bring it back to the framer and have them try to fix it.

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by mikehaspey on Jun 26, 2014 18:34:02 GMT 1, Yeah if the print isn't totally flat when framed eventually it will ripple , first thing to do - as said above - take it back to the framer and they may be able to sort it for you there for free, if not free certainly much cheaper than having it flattened by a restorer

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by Deleted on Jun 28, 2014 16:17:15 GMT 1, cheers everyone... if i open the frame and set the print out properly this is something I can do myself? Best not to unless you're used to handling/removing prints. Take it back to the framers and see what they say. Is it a reputable framer? If you don't want to take it back to the same framer find another reputable framer and have them look at it before you go to the expense of sending it to a restorer. I reframe a lot of work and some framing practices are dubious, the rippling could also be caused by the print being taped down at the bottom as well as hopefully just hinged at the top, its something I see a lot of, best to take it to a professional to be safe.

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by gripin on Feb 27, 2016 7:57:43 GMT 1, hi and greetings from switzerland
i am looking for a good restoration company. maybe someone knows a good one in uk or somewhere in europe.
i always have some prints and posters in my collection with creases or waterstains. some are slightly yellowished because of sunlight, some needs a touch up with airbrush or flattening some stress lines.
actually i am working together with a good company in the usa and i am very happy with them, but the shipping costs are really high, so i only can send my stuff once a year.
happy to get some links.
best, can

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by Poster Bob on Feb 27, 2016 12:07:12 GMT 1, I will no longer use Graham Bignell and I would recommend that you use someone closer to home. The quality they provide has seriously gone downhill from when I first started using them. I'm sure that a local gallery or museum could recommend you a quality restorer so that you save a massive amount of money on shipping.

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by gripin on Feb 27, 2016 15:02:13 GMT 1, this belongs mostly my oldest collection of rock art poster, i am collecting since the late eighties. they usually have some creases or waterstains or whatever. sometimes they got them due the age and handling, but also during international shipping. you cannot imagine how often i got damaged tubes because of bad and/or weak packing. and then i need this fine man with restoration skills.

Art Restoration in LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง Who do you Recommend?, by thewral on Feb 27, 2016 17:16:33 GMT 1, A bit off topic but the thread got me wondering: what's the extent of a good art restorer's powers?
For example, on paper or canvas: - Remove various stains (guessing so by this thread)? - Removing creases? How bad? - Rips/tears? - Fading from UV light? - Etc?
After restoration, are you able to tell that it's been restored (via black light or whatnot)?
