I know the original poster needed someone in UK but my response is more of a response to the positive experience above with PM...
I have had two negative experiences with PM so far. To the point where I don't even want to think about the two prints because it would make me sick and/or angry. I know people who swore by John and have since changed their tune as well. Not to mention PM is a total rip off.
I recently used www.lumiereposterrestoration.com to remove tape off the back of a print I bought. Mario literally did it in 2 hours, and had it shipped out the same day he got it. Best part, the whole transaction - shipped to him, removal of tape, and back cost me $50....Where as John at PM would have charged me $150 minimum and taken at least 2 weeks.
I don't know how Lumiere does with more serious restorations, so take my referral with a grain of salt, but so far I would definitely take a chance with Mario over another catastrophy with John at PM.

I'm intrigued why you say bignell has gone downhill? I don't like dropping off a print to be repaired for ยฃ240, picking it up, looking at it at home, and realizing they really half-assed the work. Try dropping off a print that needs 4 or 5 things done to it. I guarantee that when you get it back they will have left 1 or 2 of the flaws untouched. I've had this happen several times and I'm done with them. |

I had to request John to come out, and basically all I got was a ::Shrug:: and "Oh ya I noticed that, paper does funny things sometimes huh?"
At one point or another, as a supposed "Professional Restorer" you'd make a decision over...what's worse, some creases or a blotchy print.
On top of now having two blotchy prints that were otherwise worth $5000-8000 each, I had to pay the $300 for the crappy job too.
Never again. I don't know how people would ever send Banksys or Warhols over to him...

Because so many people I know spoke so highly of PM before my experience (now they sing the same tune as me) I tried not to "burn a bridge" and I had a friend there picking up a print that he was happy with (but later upset about) and I didn't want to make a scene. Also you sign your life away when you give them these pieces anyway...they aren't responsible. I thought surely this guy knows his s**t and I don't, it was only during my drive home and days after thinking about the whole experience that I thought paper reacting a certain way or not, it's their job to know wtf they are doing. I just decided to cut my loses and not go back and share my experience with anyone else that asked. UPDATE: Picked up my print from Bignell yesterday and I'm really happy. Not sure whether ยฃ160+VAT is competitive but well worth the outlay as far as I'm concerned. My print wasn't badly damaged, in fact most would probably have left it as it was, but I am anal as far as prints are concerned and it would have bugged me every day to know there was a small crease in the top corner. It is now 'mint' (from my perspective at least) and is with John Jones for framing. It was a signed Golf Sale FYI, a print I've been after (for the right price) for a long, long time. J

I was recommended by a fellow member (Manu) to use The Picture Frame Gallery in Gidea Park, East London. They are very knowledgable. Knows the players, prints and has some great pieces for sale in the shop.
He gave me some great advice on the pitfalls and good practices. (I could've stayed in there longer but her had work to do 
I then thought about some the posts I've seen here about glue and tape marks, people preferring prints unframed? This is where I get shot down BUT if someone buys a piece of work and they DONT frame it (as its more desirable for sale unframed apparently) isn't this something thats frowned upon here? People buying just for re-sale? I couldn't wait to get my bits in frames so I can actually enjoy them on walls.
I know this post will get me taught a few lessons...as you learn more when making mistakes , please continue my initiation...and check out this gallery.

Along with which framing costs add up almost as quick as the expensive pieces were buying lol. So it's not necessarily always people buying for resale that they aren't getting their prints framed. The reason people prefer to buy prints unframed is shipping costs skyrocket if sold framed. Also damage is a significant concern of buying a framed or previously framed piece. I don't really buy the idea of 'buy because you like the piece but no walls to hang'. If you really love the piece, you will buy it to hang and will definitely try to make way on the walls for it. If you don't have walls to hang, don't buy. If you can't make way for new ones in place of older pieces, or not willing to spend on framing, you probably don't love it enough.

Disagree. I have weeded out some framed, hanging pieces and have gotten to the point where I pretty much love everything on my walls and there's no room for anything else. That doesn't mean I don't love the pieces I continue to get even if I don't immediately have a spot for them. In fact, it's the opposite as I'm a bit more selective now so only buy or commission what I truly truly want.
Eventually it will have a spot or something will get shuffled around. Or I'll buy a bigger place. :-D

Hi all - I have a signed banksy chocolate donuts (this print) and once framed i saw this indent in it
No idea how that happened but anyways.... Either framer or it was bought damaged from POW?
Can anyone recommend a London based restorer that I can take the framed print in so they can fix this indent?
I don't want to take the print out of the frame because I am really clumsy and I will damage it so posting is not an option.
