NFT Art , by kuni on Apr 6, 2021 13:58:10 GMT 1, I track the NFT market pretty closely and the market has definitely softened over the past month especially the secondary market on niftygateway. Prices got too high too fast and there was just a massive increase in supply and not the buyers to support it. i've seen a bunch of drops not sell through, but it's pretty easy to tell which ones are going to do well and which ones aren't. The trajectory in Feb was not sustainable and we're seeing the results of that now. Probably 1 winner for every 9 losers and you can't just throw a dart and 10x your money.
With respect to Brainwash he's probably not much of a known quantity with the crypto crowd and those prices are just stupid. Expected, but stupid. That was no surprise to me.

NFT Art , by startimeash on Apr 6, 2021 16:46:26 GMT 1, The thing I really don't understand is that the way pretty much every digital business makes money is by leveraging the fact that bits cost less than actual, physical stuff. Whether it's storage, music, films, books, games, anything, physical versions have been beaten out because the marginal cost of delivering via a digital channel approaches zero. Where physical goods are retailed, the internet wins because the cost of displaying all that inventory also approaches zero.
If these didn't have the word "blockchain" attached to them, no one would buy them. It's a conman's phrase. There are legitimate uses for blockchain, but 99% of the businesses currently using it will be gone with their investors money within 5 years. Building products on top of those blockchains is even more foolish. The Beeple result will be talked about in the same breath as AOL buying Time Warner, and Rupert Murdoch buying Myspace.

The blockchain just happens to be the mechanism for proving ownership and provenance. The market is being driven by scarcity and ego, and everyone wants to own the original or the smallest edition just like the physical art market.
At the same time I think this is a massive bubble and most of this stuff will be worthless in the future, but that's a separate debate.

At the same time I think this is a massive bubble and most of this stuff will be worthless in the future, but that's a separate debate. I understand where you're coming from, but that scarcity argument doesn't translate into the digital world. As good as the WCP Banksy prints may be, people can still tell them apart from the originals. Sure, it might take an expert, or forensic testing for the best copies, but there is a clear distinction between the original and the copy. For a truly digital item, though, that scarcity is not part of the item itself, so it has to be grafted on in this cack-handed manner. If I own the Mona Lisa, I know I have the original, and I know that there's a direct line between Da Vinci's hand and what's on my wall. If I buy an NFT, I'm buying a bad cover version of that experience. I can't differentiate my version from anyone else's, save for that blockchain pointer. I guess what I'm trying to say is that a WCP will never be a Banksy, but my copy of Beeple's 5000 Days will be exactly the same as the $69m version.
Have seen a lot of technologies come and go in my 20+ years in IT, and blockchain is about as much of a hype train as I've ever seen. I have crypto holdings, purely for speculation. I guess if people want to buy NFTs for the same reason then great. But let's not pretend it's art.

This whole thing was a quick buck for a few people and a major loss for most. Anyone who buys the average NFT is now losing money and that is a fact. As more NFTs come out and the less demand...
This is something that never should have taken off but was well marketed. Even the NBA ones are getting over saturated. The hype may last for another year or so but as more and more people start losing money... it's game over soon.
NFT even as a ticket or COA.. I'm not really sure of. Again the future will bring thousands of brilliant hackers/computer engineers to either digitally copy NFTs / blockchain to a point where you can't tell it's a copy or there is just a whole new tech thing people want that is better than blockchain...
It's never been a good idea to invest in "today's technology".. blockchain is actually becoming really old technology if you start to think of it.

NFT Art , by Extra Ball on Apr 6, 2021 18:18:08 GMT 1, Is there a relationship between nft and crypto values at the moment? including ethereum? From the very beginning, it was a strengthening of ETH. You had quite a few new accts on here volcanically pushing NFT this NFT that, meanwhile from my corner desk I sent out a memo staying yo buy the underlying asset , ETH. ethereum beats its record of 1,500 euros reached 2 years ago and continues to increase. it is likely that he takes the same path as his big brother, bitcoin. or am I too optimistic?

Think it's unlikely, but you never know. Personally I am in on Tron, Stellar, Ripple, and Cardano. Cheap at the moment, and some good tech behind them. These are utterly speculative investments, so I have a very small percentage invested there, but I think they have legs. However, I am not an investment guru. It's a crap shoot on which ones strike big.

NFT Art , by acaipride on Apr 7, 2021 2:05:57 GMT 1, Ok so in my perspective nft serves as a copyright infringement protection for artists in various industries.. this is good. But it needed/needs to amass the recognition , and it takes money to do that, enter ETH whales(this began a few years ago).
As long as this is the agenda, the underlying coin giving it value is the overall winner, ETH. Big crypto whales on the media channels and news outlets should have been a big wake up call for everyone here.
ETH is just getting started. Not at all surprised on the bump XRP had. XLM I've always been intrigued about. And as long as Elon has a twitter and a voice, doge coin will survive.
Now to the art, how quickly ppl forgot what happened immediately after March 2020 when shit hit the fan.., material assets came into play in a major way...how did people forget this when the NFT hype hit? Most people are quick to forget especially in a media driven country. Say another big disaster happens, threatening our way of life...you really think people will be looking to buy an electricity driven image that it is not backed by masses of people?(I say this to exclude cryptos as these are backed by millions of ppl).
Example: If you back track to start of pandemic news, countries like india, the news was the hoarding and trade of gold over anything else.

Example: If you back track to start of pandemic news, countries like india, the news was the hoarding and trade of gold over anything else. NFT does nothing for copyright protection. The only thing the audit trail shows is that the jpg you have is from the artist and the jpg I have isn't. I can sell the same jpg from an account with the same name as the artist, and have fun when they look identical and someone tries to prove one is real and one isn't. All you're getting with block chain, in theory, is that unlike pest control with a centralized database that has the owner information that an employee or outsider could potentially change, you have a decentralized ledger that needs consensus for a change like that. Any government can shut down crypto with a few clicks of a mouse and blackhole all the nodes or the protocol. And for NFTs specifically, if they are on an isolated blockchain run by a private company, there is no guarantee that it will exist in 1,5, or 10 years. They can shut down and your virtual receipt goes away with it. Conceptually, digital art can have a purpose in the future and be sold for money, but the current implementation of NFTs and blockchain is not the long term solution.
Just your first sentences prove to me that you have no idea what you are talking about, where do ya get your info from? Like really where?

I suggest you do some DD on this subject and what nft brings to the copyright game.

I think its you that needs to do your "DD" here matey because you clearly don't know much regarding the subject of copyright and nfts thats for sure.
I have no ETH at all. If you were to backtrack on my posts you will see that the first time I mentioned ETH on this site was due to the fact that the pumpers were pushing NFTs and people were walking into it blindly, again just basic DD on my account will tell you this

NFT Art , by kuni on Apr 8, 2021 14:47:18 GMT 1, Nice to see Michael Kagan dropping tonight with just an outright cash grab! Why even hide it, just go for the lazy drop and get as much money as possible. This isn't going to go well though, these prices are too high for current market and this is going to bomb.
What a massive disappointment!

You had something potentially interesting in the summer and up until maybe January. Since, I don't think I've seen much beyond cash outs on the major platforms.

Very underrated ! yes BD White is a madman of an artist, painting massive walls and huge canvases from a wheelchair! i've been an admirer of this work for a few years. He's pretty genius!

You had something potentially interesting in the summer and up until maybe January. Since, I don't think I've seen much beyond cash outs on the major platforms. i agree with this, there's very little innovation taking place in the space and for many physical artists it's just a path of least resistance let me convert my physical work into a digital and call it a day. Lazy as all hell. Make me that much less excited to see what Futura comes up with for his drop on Sunday. i wonder if this is doing any long term damage to their brands of it the markets are compartmentalized enough that it's separate collectors and distinct enough markets.
One really cool release coming up is Mad Dog jones "replicator" auction with Phillips. Worth checking out if you haven't seen it as the mechanism is built into the smart contract, and you're basically buying a self replicating printer that spits out replication pieces. Lots more math and probability to it, but at least he's pushing the envelope. I'd like to see more of this.

The prices are a shame, especially for the letters because it could have been fun to see how people display them spelling out words and stuff.

What the hell are you supposed to do if your name is Mordecai or Frederick? Nobody dropping $5k on 9 letters. Such a rip off, should have been $100/each.
