I too would recommend the Pompidou Centre, both from an architectural perspective and for the permanent collection of the National Museum of Modern Art located within the building.
Regarding the Jef Aรฉrosol mural, besides scale, it holds no interest as far as I'm concerned. It's just a massive vanity project that was approved by the city. A self-portrait, and arguably a homage by the artist to himself.
However, what is wonderful is the Fontaine Stravinsky just in front of the mural on Place Stravinsky. This fountain has more than a dozen moving sculptural pieces by Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely. There are a few pleasant cafes nearby as well. A favourite of mine from another lifetime ago is called Dame Tartine. It isn't great but it's okay, and I always loved its location and atmosphere.
Other must-sees in Paris are the Musรฉe d'Orsay for its impressionist and post-impressionist works, and the cemeteries (Pรจre Lachaise Cemetery in particular, but also Montparnasse Cemetery if you have the time).

dont forget Orsay and the impressionists, Le Louvre ( classic but nice place ) and, of course ( with an Invader in ors wall ) the " new " ( all restarted ) museum of Picasso on the 4 th ( Le Marais ) .. When I lived there I liked to go in the cennenteries or in the Catacombes ( at Denfert-Rochereau ) in the 14 th ....

Where is a good area that is not too commercial and we can see the other sites of Paris, have a bit of a laugh and view some decent arty areas?

Nice hotel, and just a short bus or metro ride to central area around the Louvre etc.
I got out the metro and saw 5 Invaders on my short walk to the hotel

if you want a more Tre Brooklyn experience, stay in the 3rd arr. Recently stayed at hotel du petit moulin.

Highly recommend trying to find a nice place on airbnb, much more comfortable, more room, and a chance to learn a bit more about the city

I stayed at Hotel Crayon when I was there a few years ago. Hotel was great. They had some art exhibit at the hotel when we were there. Really wasn't sure who the artist was, but my wife suprised me by buying one of the pieces. Then later gave it to me as an anniversary gift.
