Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Paname on Dec 7, 2014 10:45:30 GMT 1, I do not like airbnb, some buildings are used only for that. Rents explode.
A law prohibits this practice and mayor of Paris stalking these apartments.

Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by jusdeep on Dec 7, 2014 11:02:49 GMT 1, From my experience of people using airbnb and the people doing it, it seems the reason a lot of people do this is to pay for the incredibly high rental prices charged to live in the city and allow them to stay in a place they love, feel safe and at home. Rents were getting astronomical before this concept was conceived. This only goes to help people to live in a nice area of the city, afford the crazy rental prices and allows holiday makers and business travellers to experince the city from a locals perspective. Some of the places I have stayed around the world have been incredible and far less sterile than a corporate hotel.

www.airbnb.com
I've stayed in them all across Europe. Sometimes have the whole place to myself, sometimes stay with the person living there. Have never heard a negative aspect. What you say is interesting but I think unfounded. Of course on airbnb (like almost everything these days) there are reviews. It's incredibly easy to tell which places are legitimate. Maybe there are cases like you say but in more than 50+ times of using it I've never seen it. This was the fourth time I've used it in Paris and was certainly not a hotel. It's a great concept and have met some wonderful people through their service.
Do you have any links where you can show this happening? I'd be interested to read more about it.

Friendly staff, nice rooms and right by Canal Saint-Martin, so you can spend the evenings sat by the water having a drink and a picnic. And, more importantly, there are plenty of Invaders around the neighborhood; I assume that's why your other half wants to go to Paris, right?

great hotel right in the center of the marais which has tons of art galleries, cafes and restaurants. really enjoyed staying here. has more of a neighborhood feel than say staying someplace more central and focuses on tourists. even if that hotel is a bit pricey, id look into other hotels in the marais

Look into the "Street Art Tour" it helps point you in the right direction to see a lot of local artists and leaves you off in a neighborhood where there is a ton of art to explore on your own.
Other than that -- Just walk around and "look up" and you'll see an amazing variety of art stuck to walls.

Thanks for all the advice and pm's much appreciated! Flights are booked and I am really leaning towards Canal Saint Martin area. Is the area quite busy for nigh life and it looks like it'd just off the beaten path?

Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Deleted on Dec 10, 2014 21:34:33 GMT 1, airbnb looks OK to me.
Is it a case of the French protectionism where the mayor doesn't like competition for the local commerce and hotels?
France brought in some laws recently because it didn't like Brit's who bought properties in France using them as tourist accomodation in the season.
Lots of people do shor lets in the South where they rent apartment or house to tourists in the season for a high price and the out of season rent to locals for a low price.
With the state of the French economy and no jobs it's how people earn money.
It's not as bad as people on social housing in France who don't work and sub let their properties and other scams.
Paris is changing fast and the mayor is not adressing that elephant in his chรขteau.

Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by shechtmr on Dec 17, 2014 16:18:47 GMT 1, I am taking a trip to London and Paris (my first trip to Europe) from February 8, 2015 through February 16, 2015. I am looking for any recommendations, whether it be art related or otherwise, for this trip. I know many of you live in these cities, so figured this might be a good spot to look for some advice.
Thanks, Matt

I agree with Looter about Shoreditch too. Take one day out and get a tube to Liverpool Street etc and walk around soaking up the street art and East end vibe. Grab a Beigel from Bricklane Beigel Bakery too.
