I'm afraid I've only seen ROOM from the outside, but this was fine with me.
My impression is that the interior would be open only to those who are (and look) serious about booking a room at the hotel.

My mistake. That should have read "(or look)".
By this, I mean that, if you have no issues trying to blag a quick peek around the room on a day you know it's unoccupied by guests (having confirmed in advance by calling the reservations number), your chances of succeeding will probably be higher if you turn up clean-shaven, wearing a suit, and carrying an overnight bag.

If you like photography, you may wish to consider the big Bettina Rheims show at the Maison Europรฉenne de la Photographie (4th arrondissement, near Mรฉtro Saint-Paul).
Rheims has been around for ages, doing a lot of fashion work and celebrity portraiture, but interesting side projects as well. She was a friend of Helmut Newton's and is a regular contributor to Egoรฏste magazine. I first became enamoured by her unsettling images of stuffed animals.

I am a bit struck by how expansive the urban contemporary scene is in the city with so much street art and galleries coming from a city with just a couple of galleries.

There's a whole programme of films about parkour, b-boys and b-girls and, of course, graffiti. Films include JR's 'Les Bosquets' about the 2005 riots in France's suburbs, 'Set Ci Diaamu Yallah la Bokk' about mural painting in Dakar and 'Meeting The Wall' about graffiti painted on walls scheduled for demolition. But I think the most interesting looking film revolving around graffiti is 'Star'. A lot of the crew come from a graffiti background and it is directed by Orel GT who is an old-school Parisian subway painter. Plus, although the story is fiction, a lot of the illegal graffiti being painted in the film is real.
