Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by LJCal on Jun 14, 2021 23:28:27 GMT 1, My Bridget Riley Chicago 8 print up in the Philips day sale tomorrow following on from the evening sake tomorrow. £5-7k estimate. Been told it will do well by Philips but you never know at auction. If you are thinking of bidding it’s going to a good cause ( ie me - only kidding) www.phillips.com/detail/bridget-riley/UK030221/317No snide comments tomorrow when it fails to sell !!!!!!!! It's a nice one, although her market has cooled a tiny bit (after very strong growth in last 12 months), I'd say it will comfortably exceed the high estimate, I'd guess £8-12k hammer subject to no disasters. The La Lune sold for £12k hammer which is about right I'd say, although lower than the outlier result earlier in the year making £20k hammer.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by JFCC on Jun 15, 2021 9:35:36 GMT 1, Yesterday was a breath of fresh air, a very balanced catalogue and an excellent auctioneer who worked the room, online and the phones exceptionally well, clearly and fairly.
The Banksy prices were pretty good and as expected, coming in at the same level as September with good bidding.
WSM u/s was the one mistake that Phillips made, why they included a poor condition, weaker, unsigned print amongst four very good ones is a mystery, or perhaps it was just commission greed and they couldn't help themselves!!

Because you own one? Their job is to sell things consigned to them. And that is what they did. WSM is weak print regardless of condition.

Because you own one? Their job is to sell things consigned to them. And that is what they did. Weston Super Mare is weak print regardless of condition. Not sure of your point? I own a signed Weston Super Mare yes. Regardless it is one of the bigger editions and in my view one of the weaker images, but I like it all the same.
No it was not a good fit with the rest of the catalogue which was well constructed and appropriately diverse, hence the prices returned were pretty good overall with few items passed. Further it did not complement the other 4 Banksy prints that were sold because of that and because of it's condition.
The last item in the auction shouldn't leave you flat and should not look like it was shoe horned in. They are a very professional House and should have put it in different auction or suggested politely that the client may have been returned more elsewhere.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by sandworm on Jun 15, 2021 20:22:31 GMT 1, Curious to where are you getting your numbers from?
I'm looking at the Philips website which states
Signed Love Rat:£94,500 Signed Bomb Hugger: £88,200 Unsigned Happy Chopper: £45,360 Signed Laugh Now: £151,200 Unsigned Weston Super Mare: £16,380
I'm probably missing something but, the prices on their website aren't hammer prices as I bid on a Riley last night which ended up going for £12,000 hammer price and is now listed as sold for: £15,120 e.g. hammer price + 26% (VAT and commission).

I think the 2nd half of the auction was much more subdued than the evening sale, definately seeing certain artists cooling off as well, Riley and Emin in particular seem to have seen price falls recently.

Hello everyone. Apologies not replied on here . Looked just now and had 8 different people private messaging me who are interested , some making offers. The one that sold yesterday in USA doesn’t look in great condition to me but maybe someone got a good deal . Looking for £15k . If I don’t get then will sell to the highest offer I get out the 8 people interested . Already 1 of them has offered £10k

Or does it include buyers premium + vat ? Prices shown now (i.e. after auction closes) are with premium + vat. But prices shown while the auction is ongoing are just the hammer price.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by JFCC on Jun 16, 2021 11:09:32 GMT 1, Sorry to be a pedant but the calculation is
Hammer price + buyers premium + ARR = Auction house site price.
Price paid by a UK buyer is Hammer price + (Buyers premium +VAT) + ARR = UK price paid.
The hammer price was £70k, the non VAT price was £88.5k per the auction site and the fully paid price was £94.5k
Some countries will charge an import duty that will be similar to UK VAT

I don’t own this one unfort but this is inline with previous sale price and often cited as his best print.
