My wife is taking me to NYC July 10-12. She is also having 4 other couples fly in to join us Friday night (the 11th) for dinner and drinks afterwards. Where is a great place to eat. I want something trendy and fun (but not touristy). It will be a table for 10. In the past, weve eaten at higher end restaurants, but Im not sure all 10 people will want to drop that much money (ie; per se, nobu, danielle, etc)

Also, what are the hot spots for drinks the rest of the evening.

Any help is appreciated.

ps Ill be celebrating my 40th birthday along with a friend who is also celebrating his 40th.

If Nobu is your thing then you could eat superb sashimi and sushi for a fraction of the price ($60 a head to eat well + drinks) in Naga. There are 2, one is on Houston. Trendier sushi is "Bond Street Sushi" which is sort of a cocktail bar/restaurant fusion affair with dim lights and louder than usual tunes (for a restaurant), but it gets pretty expensive depending what you order to eat and drink. There was a great French fusion place in Soho called L'orange Bleu also. Sorry if these aren't trendy, it's been a while since I lived there and I haven't been back in about 5 years now.

Used to party at "Turntables on the Hudson" when it was at Chelsea Pier. Always messy and a lot of fun, but they started changing venues and moving around before I left. Lotus bar was new and "in" - Trendy changes with the seasons there though. Best to speak to current dwellers. No idea what goes on these days of course, but if you're out very late then there's an after hours bar open til the wee hours on 9th Ave (around 46th I think) called Rudy's. Cheep pitchers of beer and hotdogs.

Short list in no order completely off the top of my head and varying price ranges. Craft (always top notch all around), Gemma, Peking Duck House (awesome place for big parties who like duck), Landmark (tribecca, not the one in the aol building), little owl, ino, pylos (greek) I could go on forever..

They just opened a Sea in Manhattan as well. on 2nd at 5th st? I believe? Not as good as the original Sea in BK though. That is for sure.

I love steak and was thinking of Lugers! Ive eaten at Sparks but have never tried Lugers.

I fyou can't into lugers try wolfgangs on greemwhich street. I little nicer atmosphere and that way you do not have to go out to brlkyn only to go back into manhattan to party

Didn't know Sea opened another place in the City. Not surprised considering how well the one in Williamsburg is doing. Another great steak house in Manhattan is Uncle Jacks on 9th Ave, just as good as Peter Luger in Brooklyn.

definitely catch Murakami at the Brooklyn Museum. The Whitney has Buckminster Fuller, Mapplethorpe, and McCarthy. nice little line-up.
