Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Jan 9, 2007 21:40:34 GMT 1, another one sold out immediately today!!!
I am still p'ed off. Basically I will never ever get another shep print ever.
this time I'm sitting at the computer (not refreshing every minute - I do have a life but checking it whenever I can), and it still sells out... and it was limited to 2 per customer/person this time
I seriously wonder who actually does get to buy them now??? How do they know it's up??
oh well, the good news is that it almost ensures that loads will be on ebay, and usually at decent prices as soo many ar carpet bagged.
anyway, f it, it's put me off shep's work so much. what a joke.
There is a good message re the new print though.... www.obeygiant.com/popup.htm?merch/proudparents.jpg

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by bonesy on Jan 9, 2007 22:15:38 GMT 1, Im really confused by your statements bro. How can a fast sell out turn you off to an artist? Should Shep make less attractive work so it sells out slower. If POW had a system that could handle the site traffic would you then be turned off to Banksy because it would sell out in seconds? This print sold out in 6 minutes, the quickest yet. Its a very attractive image and those that were dedicated had plenty of time to purchase it. If POW had a checkout system that could handle the traffic the prints would be gone in alot less than 6 minutes.
You still have a chance at one from Shepard's site. The jerk is giving some away for free: "I have very little to complain about regarding the support for my art, but there are couple of things that frustrate me. One has has been the problem with people missing out because a print sold out too quickly. The second is people misunderstanding what my political motivations are. With this print I have decided to tackle both problems with one solution. I recently watched a great documentary called IRAQ FOR SALE:THE WAR PROFITEERS. I knew that companies like Haliburton were ripping off the government and therefore all of us as taxpayers, but this film shows the real depth of the problems and the extent of shady business dealings between corporations and our government. I recommend the film to anyone, but as an added incentive I am holding back 25 "Proud Parents" prints to be given free except the price of shipping to anyone who sends a photo of themselves holding a copy of the movie in their home. Send your photographs of you and a copy of the movie to info@obeygiant.com. Don't lend one copy to five friends and try to get over. Get all five friends to buy a copy and lend it to their five friends... please. The film and more info is available at iraqforsale.org or bravenewfilms.org. Brave New Films is also behind the excellent OUTFOXED and WALMART:THE HIGH COST OF LOW PRICES. Check it all out. -Shepard "

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Jan 9, 2007 22:23:40 GMT 1, not sure if why you seem to have something against me and latch onto my posts in particualr
maybe you could invest the time to read all my posts, and my long record of support of artists....
the whole shep PRINT (MY EMPHASIS) business is becoming a joke... what more do you need to know?
you call it dedicated? how/why? do I sit there all day and refesh every 30 secs? is that dedicated or amazingly sad?
wonder how many people bought 2 even though they only really want one?
wonder how many people bought it even though they didn't like it?
we'll agree to disagree but at least try to give me the courteousy of reading all my posts before your knee jerk reactions.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by bonesy on Jan 9, 2007 22:37:44 GMT 1, I dont latch on to all of your posts Martin. Like you just said I dont have the time to read all of your posts. I read the topics that interest me, one being the Obey thread. I just dont understand how someone can be mad at an artist for having quick sell outs, Im happy for Shep he's a stand up guy and deserves the success. 4 weeks ago he had no limit on the number of prints you could buy and the prints would sit on the site for months at a time. Now as his popularity has grown he's limited it to 2 per person. He himself has just stated ""I have very little to complain about regarding the support for my art, there are couple of things that frustrate me. One has has been the problem with people missing out because a print sold out too quickly."
I think Shep hears where you are coming from but its not really him you should be focusing your frustration on. Street artists have put out some amazing work lately and the "scene" has become MUCH more popular (obviously). I think your frustration should be directed at the scene not the artist.
Shep has let peeps know what day and around what time his prints go on sale, isnnt that enough? If you want one you know when and where to get it online. I flew out to LA (spending $1000) hoping Id have a chance at buying a Banksy print, that was the dedication I had to get a print. For an Obey print its much easier, come on now.
Hate the game, not the artist.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by pastiepie on Jan 10, 2007 2:05:02 GMT 1, It's not Shep's fault that alot of people seem to like his work. I think a lot of people out there are suffering from Banksy Syndrome. The need to buy anything associated with a particularly hyped up artist. There must be a lot of people with deep pockets that are buying every single release to put in their leather bound portfolios. It's like collecting basketball cards for rich people.

And in the U.S., I've never had a problem getting Obey stuff shipped since 2004 or so. I also enjoy their more recent utilization of online tracking. I watched my Proud Parents jump from state to state.

But the "rise above" image is where the peace image should be. Plus, it is featuredon the main page which makes me think it is next week's. Unless they put both out at once and I missed it.
This website www.thegiant.org/ seems to confirm that only peace was released. So if you want it, next week perhaps

In looking at other Obey forums there was much talk about a "paypal time stamp" with many ppl boasting that such a time stamp of 12:04pm and earlier was needed to get a print. If that's the case, I'm out! Guess we'll see

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by pezlow on Feb 28, 2007 10:32:18 GMT 1, The "Paypal time stamp" I don't think always means a great deal. I have heard of people being refunded who had a paypal time that is earlier than some people on the giant forum who got a print. Important thing is to get your order in a pray for the best. It's a costly exercise though now with the limit of one print per person as shipping is nearly as much as the print itself.
As for me recently I have done OK. Missed out on Proud Parents, didn't want This Machine Kills fascists, picked up Cream war for sale, missed out on red war for sale, picked up Chuck D and (I hope) picked up Peace Goddess. Completely missed Rise Above Arrows as I was so buzzing from getting peace goddess I went off to tell my other half about it.
Would be interested in trading a Cream War for Sale or Chuck for a Proud parents, Red War for sale or others.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mcnuts on Feb 28, 2007 10:36:43 GMT 1, well thats good to know then. With my lovely BT broadband, I was lucky to get through and purchase but not till later (is 12:06 really later- sheesh?).
Anyway, the 1 per person gives us a chance but man, shipping is a b*atch. I guess when you convert the price of the print to GBP it still cheaper than a lot of stuff over here.
Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed but won't cry too much if I miss out.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by slowmo on Feb 28, 2007 10:50:54 GMT 1, I would happily have paid ยฃ35 for that print from a shop, they are cheap even with the shipping. Long overdue having the 1 per person. This should apply to any established artist who can sell editions in less than 5 minutes really. Thought it was a bit daft their statemen on their surprise that so many are ending up on ebay.
