PROSTITUTE BOX SET $250.00 OBEY::ART PROSTITUTE BOX SET Art Prostitute was launched in April of 2003 as a completely self funded and distributed art and design publication, based in Texas. The inaugural issue's highlight was a feature interview with Evan Hecox and that the issue came with a print from each of its featured artists. Art Prostitute continued to evolve the publication and has since interviewed and published prints from 30 artists, many of which are some of the most significant artists of our time. Art Prostitute is now based in Dallas, TX where the publication and gallery are providing a much needed boost to Deep Ellum. To archive their first 8 issues and to celebrate the next evolution of Art Prostitute (the move to a biannual book format) AP teamed up with long time friend Shepard Fairey to release the definitive Obey Art Prostitute Boxed Set. These custom made literature boxes house all 8 issues, including the out of print Issue number 2 which is housed in a full color sleeve and signed by Shepard Fairey. The sets will ship with 12 flat, 15x15, full color, offset prints (issues 6-8) and 18 folded, 17x17, full color, offset prints, which came packaged with the earlier issues. Each box lid bears a limited edition stamp and is hand numbered in an edition of 100. I was checking out picturesonwalls.com (which you should too if you are not familiar) and I came across this image by a Japanese artist named Aiko. I'm not sure how long the image has been around, but for the record, I was not aware of it when I made my War by Numbers print. Since the two images came out close to the same time I'm pretty sure it is a coincidence. I really like Aiko's image and I think it is amazing how both images subvert their respective culture's versions of cute cliche. The back story with my image is this: I was asked to participate in a children's charity art show where each artist would be given a PAINT BY NUMBER image to work back into. The image I got was of a little girl with a flower.

For Shepard Fairey he meets the demand for his work, and earns himself a well earned healthy living, while keeping his fans happy ๐ win win! Situation? Perfect sales strategy?
