Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by mcchicken on Feb 9, 2023 8:53:30 GMT 1, Many thanks for sharing your thoughts and the pictures. About the signature on a sticker, historically speaking it might be compared to Dali signing blank papers where lithographs were impressed a posteriori. The idea was to earn as much money as possible. There were two consequences for his work : first it did too many รฉditions because it was easy money. It depreciated his work and of course the price of the editions on the very long term. Secondly, he lost control en the editions : some editors / galerists launched poor quality lithographs which where very near to photographs of paintings. This situation is so much comparableโฆ but many things have changed since the 70โsโฆ and globally Invaderโs production to date remains very low but for how long??? Did the staff at Heni give you any idea as to how sales were going ?? Hi did try to ask indeed about thqt, but obviously they are relatively tight lipped (and i am not sure the staff on site had full access to the order book). However they did communicate on how many *previous* HENI releases in that ballpark (3k) ended up selling, and hinted that it wasnt unreasonable to use that as a bellwether (but i believe its common sense, rather than them giving me any inisght on it), also mentoonned that since the previous comps were Hirst which is a more popular/wider reaching artists, then its not exactly the same calibre here.
Anecdotally, they did mention that most poeple who came in, came to see the Marylin and the Country Life, which I also thought were the more appealing ones. I was disappointed by camouflage, in person the size is just wrong, it would need to be >50% smaller imo. Caveat being that the people who "came in" are likely proper collectors/fans, not speculativeflippers. And so the latter could skew the numbers imo.
Hope this helps

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Atelier on Feb 9, 2023 9:01:26 GMT 1, Went by Heni Gallery to check these out. Very disappointing.
Having bought The Currency and The Empresses physicals - by comparison for the price I can unequivocally say these feel way overpriced and not good value.
Heni are 100% taking the piss on these and buying into them, fuels their greed. Quite simply this Invader series printing / laminate style lacks any craft or charm. They look kinda cheap and have what in my opinion is an unappealing glossy / shiny finish that just looks like a digital print you'd pump out on a high gloss epson printer. This is then laminated in a high gloss acrylic laminate front face that looks cheap and definitely does not feel like 3k well spent. I guess they were trying to go for a Rubix style surface but it simply does not work. The Virtues also had a gloss finish with similar backing (which I also did not love) however The Virtues at least had some level of craft that fitted the medium better.
One member posted that they dislike the glare but still bought them all!!? and will look to spend 1000ยฃ's on framing to get rid of this shine? Complete waste of money IMO - no amount of framing ingenuity will escape these are simply not good 'prints'. Given that The Empresses were also 3k and have only just held value, some versions actually worth less, I can confidently say these are way poorer quality and will quite likely take you into negative equity. Don't buy into this Heni money making hustle. Demand better quality editions for your hard earned 3k.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Deleted on Feb 9, 2023 9:45:01 GMT 1, This thread reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.
โIt's easy to attack and destroy an act of creation. It's a lot more difficult to perform one.โ
Iโm sure a lot of thought went into this release. And Iโm sure these will look stunning on the wall.
In my humble opinion, of course.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Richy Rich on Feb 9, 2023 9:48:08 GMT 1, I've pulled the trigger on the set, some of the comments from the purists on here made me throw up a bit in my mouth. So many positives here, I could care less of they are giclees and bigger is better 99% of the time, but...... the glare/reflection is already driving me nuts and they're not even on the wall yet, I remember now why Ive sold every Heni print Ive ever owned (as many at a cost/a loss as profit) they just never look right. I really want to hang at least a couple of these so I'm going to take to my framers to see if there is anyway I can reduce the reflection, if I find a cost effective solution i'll let you guys know. Obviously could remove the acrylic layer and use museum acrylic but I'm guessing that could cost ยฃ1,200-1,500. Maybe adding a layer of art glass but would then need a frame and subframe and could end up being very heavy, possible 30kg+. I'm hoping there is some kind of film or treatment out there. Were you not tempted to drop ยฃ12k on one of his other signed prints instead or did you want something with a bit more wow factor? Have to agree on the reflective issue. I've owned a few of the dibonds and none lasted more than a few weeks on the wall. The feel like they're half artwork/half mirror.

It's a lot more difficult to perform one.โ Iโm sure a lot of thought went into this release. And Iโm sure these will look stunning on the wall. I think many would agree with that quote. However:
1. This release has nothing to do with "creation". It's not the product creativity, it's not the result artistic genius. 2. In fact: the creation of these was not "difficult": The Rubiks' works themselves were already there. All they did is select four of these. That's it. 3. Therefore I doubt that "a lot of thought" went into them.
Also just a humble opinion.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by kai22 on Feb 9, 2023 10:49:26 GMT 1, The mental gymnastics people are going through to justify this purchase tells you all you need to know. A very expensive mirror purchase of a reproduction photo by Heni to an out-sourced factory somewhereโฆwith a signed sticker. Would people be remotely entertaining this release pre - Invader market manipulation? IMO, this is not about art appreciationโฆ this is about FOMO on a paydayโฆ
On a slightly more philosophical point, this release is the antithesis of why people initially started following Invader. This is where the journey has taken himโฆa conclusion I would never have predicted. Sadly, the best years of this scene are now firmly behind us.

I think the โhe sold outโ argument is a strange one. Since when did underground not generally influence and eventually become mainstream? I know itโs not fun anymore when Joe Shmoe knows about Invader, but thatโs the natural trend.
The risk of going mainstream is that the underground purists will stop appreciating the work and stop support. But itโs a tiny market compared to the mainstream one. I think Heni is mainstream. And did a good job convincing Invader, clearly!

Fun aside - out of principle, I stay away from the colourful Heni Mirrors and always find it both interesting and surprising that people are willing to add heavy framing cost to mitigate a problem which would be so easy to solve at source.
It puzzles me ever since the first of these dibond editions why Heni is not offering a matt / non glossy version.
Also, these Invaders won't age nicely at all.

Since when did underground not generally influence and eventually become mainstream? It is not the fact that he has teamed up with HENI and that this will push him more towards mainstream. It is also not that he is trying to "make a buck" - most on here will accept this. People on here would have loved a proper accessible edition.
But what HENI/Invader are saying is: We give you a signed photograph, you give us 4000.- Dollars. And at the same time pretend that it is more than a signed photograph. For a business that makes sense; for a street artist it is a disgrace.

I hear you. Iโm not sure about the pretend bit, though. Itโs pretty clear what they are.
Regarding the $4K for a photo; this is a luxury item. LV sells t-shirts for $1k. The materials/medium they used wonโt define the value.
But I hear you (sincerely).

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by mcchicken on Feb 9, 2023 16:08:07 GMT 1, I was going to order one (Marilyn) - and I even liked it after seeing it in person at Heni. Although my concern was mostly around the size of it and how "red" it is (harder to find a good place to hang it)
But after seeing you guys sh*tting all over this drop, I'll probably pass. Not concerned too much about the price of it, or the size of the release, but if a good portion of the purists out there think its simply not a good piece of work from Inavder, then I may reconsider.
DM me if you have better works of invader that you're seeking to sell London-based

DM me if you have better works of invader that you're seeking to sell London-based If you like it buy it (and better if money is not the issue) some here are only pissing on the release so the edition size stay low / some can't buy it / some hate mass market it's the cheapest easy to buy signed by invader release ready to display for the moment , hope this release will be a success and more will come Will love to grab one but can't buy everything already lucky to have the latest (print/book)

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by bba on Feb 9, 2023 16:36:43 GMT 1, Framing behind AR glass works well, but looks more suitable on some than others. Iโve not done it with my Empress for example (although it isnโt exposed to any significant natural light). Loyalty perfectly framed and placed!

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Inknart on Feb 9, 2023 16:56:07 GMT 1, Interesting poll I found on Twitter with 149 votes. No clue how representative the voters are thoโฆ The cube imo is the real winner after i keep looking. Tempted to buy it for what it is, a blown up photo. It just works better as a photograph then the others and the Glossy aspect adds to the POP of it. May actually pull the trigger as i think it will be one of the only photos of this set that ages well and knows what it is.

I only buy what I like and ignore what others say. No, do not ignore what others say but take your own decision. I was comparing this thread with the one for Virtues by Hirst, I just read again the 42 pages. Clearly, the tone for Virtues was very positive on the overall (despite some criticism of course). Not all threads are negative. My opinion is that everyone's opinion has to be heard and taken into acount and one should of course take into acount that some people try to keep the edition size low.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Londown 01 on Feb 9, 2023 17:10:27 GMT 1, Sure, I was criticising mostly their technique, and the price.
But these might pop in the right environment, and they might perform well on secondary!

Itโs actually super close to Invaderโs original Rubic Cubism print released in 2006. May be the sleeper of the bunch.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by apollo15 on Feb 9, 2023 18:33:16 GMT 1, My personal experience... From Hirst / Heni, for my collection I already bought one large rainbow, "Virtues", "Currency" and a couple of "Empress" (they're not that bad, honestly). So you can say that I'm not against this type of display.
When I heard about Heni / Invader, I thought it would be an easy decision. But, like many here, for reasons already mentioned, I'm not attracted. I really wanted something with a smaller limited edition number and hand signature displayed on front, with a theme more related to his past prints.
Then I realized - see my yesterday post - that the 500 ex. limited edition of his recent book had a huge 'extended' version of the cover, created by Invader to be framed as a 37cm x 47cm signed and numbered /500 print. Only available through a lottery during the Paris exhibition. It 's just been out, so it was not hard to find on 2nd market. Therefore, I just bought one, for much less than a Heni, and I'm mega happy ! I just feel alone, no one seems to take the same path. Yes, a signed serigraph is not a signed lithograph, but it's damn better than a photo-signed-on-the-back-label. Take a look (sorry, I repost the same photo..) taken during his recent Paris exhibition.

DM me if you have better works of invader that you're seeking to sell London-based Don't believe whats said here. They are trying to keep the edition size low. Always happens, go with your gut. I can't speak for others but I am absolutely not 'trying to keep the edition size low' LOL. As a good member and experienced collector I think it's important as a community to flag to other members when companies like HENI are taking advantage of art buyers and in this case I truly believe this is the case and these are not good buys. As another member pointed out Hirst (The HENI OG) has way more reach than Invader and going by the level of craft on these prints and comparison to pricing of other HENI releases these are overpriced and will struggle to maintain their at source pricing. They look like posters framed with acrylic, not fine art prints. Even the Peter Doig prints were a far better buy as they were nicely printed, hand signed by a well regarded fine artist and also cheaper. Don't fall for the trap y'all. But if you want to spend 3k on a laminated invader poster, go for it. It's disappointing Invader has approved these. They do not stand up against his other editions.
