New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by nobokov on Apr 17, 2023 15:53:29 GMT 1, Right now on eBay. I'm all up for enterprise and making a few bob, but this can't be right. What should/can be done?
That's funny. Of course, the listings are all by UAA members who've posted in this thread talking about how "great" a blek le rat print is. Can't really ask them what should be done, because it's what they do.

Will update my message with that price That one is from the seller (alarmart) who sold one the day after release, so either the sale fell through, or he bought more than one......... Usually they start off with fake ebay sales. A buyer can order, but never pay. Eventually the seller can cancel the order, but the transaction shows up as a sale in the listings anyway. That's how flippers set a floor with fake sales making people think that there's real demand at a certain price level. Then all the lemmings follow.
Damien Hirst also does this outside of eBay. Saying that he sold a diamond encrusted skull for 100 mill, then throws it in his closet.

New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by Deleted on Apr 18, 2023 6:12:55 GMT 1, Maybe it's all a hype machine by the galerist, some little trolls from him. His gallery owner is a scammer and Blek is maybe not the most honest either, yesterday they took the sound out of the video, maybe the sound will come back miraculously. He says in the video that he doesn't necessarily want to say that Banksy is manipulating the market and doesn't know how to do it, but he now has his gallerist (the gallery owner is the guy doing the interview lol) who knows how to do it. Always take a closer look before all the shepherds start running. The Video have 18 Likes and the guy have 10.5k fake Follwers, it's very interesting to look a little bit closer. Pay attention to the body language of both of them, anyone who can read people knows what scratching means.

New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by Lroy on Apr 18, 2023 8:56:08 GMT 1, I checked only for curiosity (I'm waiting mine) and I found a better price on eBay, £1059,96 Anyway, I like Blek, old stuff as Beggar, Diana etc... But these simple rats at this price ! One with a crown, other one with a A as anarchy symbol, another one with a microphone etc etc ... Well, it's a bit lazy, or if you like the adventures of Tintin and snowy.. I know that Blek le Rat is a legend, but, without hate, jealousy ( or I don't know what ) , I found these prices a bit exagerated ( 500 quid was too much too )
I think that Blek does not dare to make real prints with subjects or characters, less childish, real prints as he known to make by the past.. Maybe he needs as each of us, a bit of money ( his last painting in London was great, why not a print then ? I like better what he is painting on the walls anyway )...
One day we should make a thread about rats ( or monkeys ) and street-art. Why ? There are so many things to share or to denunce.
Just my advice without any angryness.

New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by cheffe stefano on Apr 18, 2023 9:13:16 GMT 1, I understand your point of view. I think that he has the possibility to make money (as you said) and he sees that a lot of people want a piece made by him (I'm one of these people), We live in a massified, fast-paced world, and to support the weight of this speed we are looking for recognizable elements (of fetishes, idols); we are growing up in a society of brands, of logos. Maybe we deserve this kind of art, because that is what we are looking for. This is true for so many other artists, I think of the extreme recognizability of Murakami's flowers, of the repetitiveness and recognizability of Stik's works, but also others,Invader (although in a way he had the courage to evolve by experimenting with the cube)

It develops the formulae for success for artists in an over-narcissist's world. Playing with our sentiment using recognizable elements is def. one of them. Conclusion of the article, even if remembered, they will be remember as the "dustbin of art", just like for rococo style and their artists

Blek lost his mojo many years ago. He tried to come back in the market, he opened his shop and did several releases. It was my impression that he was doing very well, doing a few releases year and selling canvas to private/individuals. It seems though that he is not satisfied yet, despite being tagged the pioneer of stencil and being of a certain age. May be he has a quest... he want more exposure and be recognised. Or simply he wants more money And in this modern world, exposure is key, you can have success without exposure... an exposure means partnering. I am sure his solo exhibition will be a sellout, trust the partners.

New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by blurp on Apr 18, 2023 14:40:35 GMT 1, wait..... what is this... a thread where the ART is being discussed? Indeed its value - pumped or dumped - cant be disentangled from this discussion. I agree Blek lost his mojo years ago perhaps Hirst did but his work remains flippable and thus in the establishment. The establishment also maintains an interest in keeping it that way (I own 1 blek - a sheep which I longed for, for many years and is one of my favourite prints. I also own a Hirst Currency; so I do have skin in the value game).
Blek's work was never really good; it's the epitome of dustbin art. His stencils were not skilled, there was never a message or a subtly to his practice but, he did his thing/does his thing. It's appreciated and he was early in the scene. He never seemed to progress both in skill (have you seen the hands on the last print) or with an artistic message. He should have his due as an early street artist who had an influence on Banksy but not much beyond that. I find it rather odd the hype and 2ndary selling around Blek and the only way I can make sense of it is as a coordinated effort to hype his work up (remember when Nick Walker tried to do this at auction? Nick who you say? Exactly).
Loved reading the Dustbin Article btw. Still, everything that surrounds you will eventually end up in the dustbin of history visible to future geologists as a faint line in the earth's start. So, enjoy what you have on the wall!

New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by Lroy on Apr 18, 2023 14:44:57 GMT 1, I understand your point of view. This is true for so many other artists, I think of the extreme recognizability of Murakami's flowers, of the repetitiveness and recognizability of Stik's works, but also others,Invader (although in a way he had the courage to evolve by experimenting with the cube) I’m totally agree with you ( I don’t like Murakami anyway )… We could reproach to Hirst, his spots and derivative, but no comparison. Hirst is a full time and complete artist - even if I’m not too much fan sometimes. He tries and he dares, he creates.
The difference between Stik per example and Blek, is that Stik is an activist, and is painting ( with the same character I agree but with different expression ) for caritative campaign, for ( and with ) kids, NHS, LGBT, making posters for social newspapers etc , he is more implicated in lifestyle snd streets, I mean he cares about actuality, defends people rights etc .. He painted in awesome spots too as in Dublin, made a big wall in Acton town etc… Invader is using same tiles too but, as for Stik, he is always outside on his ladder or not, sticking different terms in his artworks etc … Banksy rats seem more political and/or social too. More iconic and ironic.
The problem with Blek ( there are not, just a discussion ), is that he is living in his house in a cosy area outside Paris, and is only sorting out there for an exhibition, painting inside, making prints with the same theme as if it was enough. Then he goes back home. He is less implicated in Street-Art life I think, hyped or not, combattive or ludicrous.
Maybe, as wrote the member above ( sorry I am on the phone and can’t see his Italian name ) , he is making commission for friends, maybe he would like more recognition ( there was a rivality between Banksy and him at a moment ) , or just sort out his head ( as rats 🐀 from home’s holes 🕳) , just to take a big part of cheese to quickly taking it back in his hole, for winter per example.
He is a great artist anyway, superb stencilist, and respected one, he just should be more outside ( painting or not ). Something is missing I don’t know what. Maybe these last serie of rats ( better realized, less fatty ) does not show us all is talent and credibility as a street-artist should be.
Where were you Blek ? Where are you going ? And when you will come back ?

New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by Matt 2 ttaM on Apr 19, 2023 6:07:49 GMT 1, The prints have become rather safe, I dont think his other ideas do as good. On a side note, I am surprised how many of his large OG’s went unsold at the last show. Mind you at 40k, I am sure not everyone is jumping on it but still.

New Blek le Rat print „The King“, by Pete the Post on Apr 19, 2023 12:53:59 GMT 1, Good to see Blek Le Rat getting a bit more attention! He is a long term part of the scene, even if he was a little less detailed back then. He made cool pieces, and got out on the street and hit them.
Love a bunch of his older stuff, and also like these new ones, maybe not as much. I had sen the anarchy rat image and always assumed it was a regular size print. I found 3 or 4 of these rat prints in the collection ive ben going through, and was a bit stunned by the size!
Good on him though, he deserves to cement his place if you ask me. Hope the management works out, sounds pretty dam sketchy!
