Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Winter on Aug 16, 2023 9:44:50 GMT 1, I think this is why Heni uses Dibond. The photograph printing technique most closely replicates the original and if that is the intention of a print then you can t beat it. I think that was the original I mention of prints but for sone the narrative has shifted and the old techniques are desirable in own right in to create something similar but different to the original. By printing on dibond the digital approach can really differentiate itself. It's the medium for digital photographic printing. Gloss or no gloss. The high gloss is gross in my opinion. If they can produce these without the cheap, tacky finish and maybe sort out the horrible unfinished edging I'd be interested.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by stendhal on Aug 16, 2023 10:31:32 GMT 1, If at some point all of your legitimate critics on dibonds become too problematic for collectors, I guess editors and printers will evolve. For the moments, they sell well.
About the signature on the back, obviously it is for cost reason but I find it interesting to question, as a collector, my greed for signature. If I had the choice I would prefer it on the front but having it on the back makes me humble. Main problem for me is the sticker thing

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by topper on Aug 16, 2023 10:52:39 GMT 1, Regarding the signature, none of the originals have a signature on the front.
I get that people dont like the gloss. But nobody ever talks about prints behind standard glass which pretty much has the same reflection. All of my prints go behind museum glass but the dibonds are not works on paper and I like the finish.

The signature on an original will remain forever on the canvas, the sticker on the panel I doubt in the years.., just my h.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Georgie Poppit on Aug 16, 2023 11:04:47 GMT 1, It’s all about profit. Hirst used to create incredible editions that took months and the whole process was very expensive. The foil butterfly and skull works were superb but expensive to produce. The fact Hirst has gone from those to these rubbish dibonds goes to show he couldn’t care less about the quality any more and was happy to fleece his customers with tat. The signature on a sticker is just the cherry on top of a very cheap cake. All of this is only my opinion.

On my Invader dibonds, first thing I did when unpacking was to put à plastic protection, it is not stuck on the sticker but protects it. It costs nothing and is easy to remove

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by cryptoowly on Aug 16, 2023 11:55:57 GMT 1, I think it's the cost that most people are annoyed about with these dibonds. Can be matt or gloss, can be a perfect replication of the underlying art work, or an adjusted version.
Lot of pros to dibond imho: longevity, clarity of image, built in UV, more robust, leverages the latest tech for digital replication
Cons: cost, less vintage feel achieved via more traditional printing techniques

I have no photo, I user a plastic protection for A4 sheets. Just cut a rectangle bigger than the sticker and put little scotch at each angle as back of dibonds is metal, it is not a problem when you put it off. It is very clean and can be removed

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Smokeidaeye on Aug 16, 2023 18:22:21 GMT 1, My issue all along has been the stickers on the back. It seems extremely lazy and I am not sure how they will last over time, i.e. yellowing and peeling off.
For sh!ts and giggles, I dug up one of a handful of my photos that I had printed on aluminum many years ago. I then signed it on the front. It actually looks pretty good and took me .02 seconds to do. I then rubbed it and scratched at it aggressively and it did not come off.
Anyone and their mother could find a high res copy of this photo on the internet and have it printed on aluminum but only I can sign (and number) it on the front, making it a unique piece. Anyway, I skipped the release for that reason and went for a poster which an extremely kind member here hooked me up with since I am in the US.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by beemur on Aug 16, 2023 19:16:50 GMT 1, robo Thanks for sharing the photos. The detail looks great. I ordered a Blizzard too. Now I'm even more excited to get it up on my wall.
About the dibond... I see both sides of the argument. I agree they are a little too reflective. But so are some of my framed paper prints, depending on where they are hung. I think my Virtues print is stunning. The colours and detail look incredible. And I have an Empresses print too, which has a lot of sparkles embedded into it, so it's more than just a print of a photo.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Icesay on Aug 16, 2023 19:55:51 GMT 1, 13 pages tells me this is Hirsts worst series yet. Increasingly looking like just chucking paint at a canvas. Very few actually emote even in a visceral way. When buying art it should say something and make you feel something meaningful, particularly when abstract. When I look at these I think Durge.
