Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by Jules Leotard on Oct 9, 2023 15:37:58 GMT 1, For anyone saying it's good, here's a close-up I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be 'taken in' from a distance. The negative space 100% points to Banksy. The woman's hand...VERY Banksy.

Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by Minecrafter on Oct 9, 2023 15:44:59 GMT 1, Well I guess it's tasteless timing in general. Unless Banksy had a autopilot team paid to inflict this monstrosity onto society on a designated date. Has Banksy ever done anything you've liked? Anything at all? Some of the taxidermy stuff they commissioned of Polly Morgan is quite nice. Although it flies in the face of some of their other messages. ๐

I find it hard to imagine Ms Morgan going out with a torch in the middle of the night and clubbing rats to death with it.

Purely gut feel. I have been wrong before.

Looks like it might have taken some time to execute, erect hoarding etc point to Banksy for me. Perhaps its not finished and they got interrupted during the process. If its not Banksy it's a pretty brazen location so i would imagine they are well known outfit

Sorry but when I look at what Banksy is culpable of, the detail on this face for example, there's not a chance this is legit.

Unless it was done intentionally, which is entirely possible. AI is famous for getting human features wrong. You've never seen the super creepy AI generated beer commercial?
In addition, the Nottingham hula-hooping girl was pixelated, presumably by design.

While the faces do lack detail, there's something odd with the light on the photo that keeps getting reposted that makes it look worse than it is in the flesh...

Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by robo on Oct 10, 2023 3:39:34 GMT 1, Banksy frequently plays with different ways for entities in the artwork to have created the graffiti element of the work, so this does read as familiar at first glance.
But to me this work lacks the wit, conciseness or meaning of a good Banksy. Itโs also overworked - the image is funnier and cleverer without the struggling humans and the severed power cable. ( I could see a series of simpler robot arm-only works appearing around town as Banksyโs new monkey or rat motif.)
So Iโm hoping this is an impersonator not the man himself.

So, Robo, you have been a member on UAA since 2006 and are unable to identify this as having been done by Banksy? You see no wit nor meaning in it? The humans trying to stop the AI machine (the irony) that they created as it "speaks the truth," it is all totally lost on you after following Banksy pretty much as long as anyone on this forum?
I guess we can all hope that James Straffon takes credit for it.

Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by Londown 01 on Oct 10, 2023 9:56:57 GMT 1, Agreed. itโs not clear if the humans are supposed to be towing it away, or what? stronger without them. Completely disagree. Without the humans it is what: an expression of machine utopia?
The inclusion of the humans creates tension and ambiguity: You do not know whose vision of a future it is. Is the machine only executing human commands? Is it acting completely out of its own "will"? Or is it a joint effort?
That the humans are towing it adds to this: it appears that the humans are trying to act against the machine, towing it away. However, the machine is too small to have written the letters all on its own: therefore the humans towing it really only enables the machine to create the graffiti

Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by Acme Thunderer on Oct 10, 2023 10:37:30 GMT 1, FWIW, I was immediately convinced it is a Banksy.
If itโs not, then we should be even more excited that there is another street artist with the balls to put such a large and original work in a very public place (which is why I think itโs a Banksy).
The work was intended to be viewed by moving traffic so whoever done it can easily be forgiven if it is lacking detail (as it never needed it).

Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by Londown 01 on Oct 10, 2023 13:03:43 GMT 1, So, what you're saying is, the image is stronger by being ambiguous!?? You don't know what role the humans are playing, but you prefer it like that? Just seems like a weak image to me, if you can't work out what they're doing. I'm mildly surprised that you don't share the sentiment. Many of the greatest artworks don't have one definite reading/ message, just think Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam" or Picasso's "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon".
And yes, I think this new street piece is much better because of the ambiguity of its message and therefore openness to multiple interpretations. Two reasons:
- the role of humans in a future society with robots/ AI is unknown: will the machines accept their "slavery" or coexistence with humans, or will they aim to destroy/ enslave us (btw. the topic of about 1000 sci-fi films)
- the attitude of humans towards robots/ AI is varied: some look forward to it, some dread the idea and implications, and some are somewhere in between these
The ambiguity of the graffiti can be seen as reflecting just that. If it were to say "Let the robots build a future without humans", then it would simply be bland and boring.

Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by My Name is Frank on Oct 10, 2023 15:14:11 GMT 1, Both the artworks you named appear to have very clear messages from one read. God reaching from heaven to earth and giving Adam life. Picasso a randy git looking in the brothel shop window? What other meanings are there? I'm intrigued as I very often find, when someone offers an alternative I wonder how I never saw it in the first place.

Banksy Street Art "Another World is Possible", by Londown 01 on Oct 10, 2023 15:23:33 GMT 1, God reaching from heaven to earth and giving Adam life. Yes, I (mostly) agree with you on God, but when you consider Adam: he has just been created, is casually lying on the ground. His hand is pointing towards God, but - in contrast to God - his hand is not outstretched. If he wanted to, he could reach God .. but does he even want to? And this combined with his body posture: he is leaning in the other direction, away from God.
So does it symbolise the close bond between God and his creation or humanity moving away from him/them?
