Art Valuation โข What's it Worth?, by cemltz on Nov 6, 2023 22:55:51 GMT 1, With Tiens prints, it all depends on the specific version and if people are interested.
I bought "Indiens" at TateWard last week for ยฃ1,400 hammer ++. Call it ยฃ1,800 all-in. That was about ยฃ500 more than I wanted to spend, but clearly someone else also wanted the print and I was bored...
I would think expect ยฃ1K and be happy if you get a bit more...

One more please. This is an early Shepard Fairey piece titled "Obey 99" or "Obedience Problems", HPM edition of 19 purchased directly from his studio in 2006. It's a larger piece, about 42 ร 28 1/2 in | 106.7 ร 72.4 cm.
Any thoughts on an early piece like this?

Art Valuation โข What's it Worth?, by styggve on Feb 6, 2024 8:13:42 GMT 1, Hi there,
I wonder if you guys could help me estimate the value of a Pez artwork im thinking of selling:
Pez Black Mirror - Vintage Spectrum Version (not the main edition)
2015
Edition on 25.
Screen print in colours on 300 gsm Somerset paper
67 ร 94 cm
Sign & Dated By The Artist
COA
Looking forward to hear your estimates
Note that the print has "lived" a little under the frame, so there are some waves in it as you can see from picture 2. The print should therefor be re-framed.
Also feel free to PM me if you would be interested in buying.

Art Valuation โข What's it Worth?, by met on Feb 7, 2024 18:15:25 GMT 1, I need honest opinions on Damien Hirst Virtous H9-6 Honour - thank you.
While not referring to your piece specifically, I would describe the entire series of The Virtues as one of many recent examples pointing to the decline of Damien Hirst as a creative.
For me, this is conceptually vacuous, substance-free work. And frankly boring, which is arguably the biggest crime of all.
It epitomises art strictly as decoration โ presumably bought by those who are less concerned about a piece having any real meaning to them, than about:
(a) the fame or name-recognition of its creator; and
(b) whether it will look good over the sofa.
If it weren't for the relatively-high price tag, such work would be scooped up by surburban housewives and grannies all across the country.
__________
I seem to recall an old interview with Hirst from the 1990s, in which he mentioned the recurring complaint of his mother was something along the lines of, "Why don't you ever just paint something nice?"
And here we are today. With a bunch of frigging cherry blossoms.
It may have taken him two or three decades but, at long last, Hirst (the former punk) is now creating the kind of art he knows will make mum happy.

Art Valuation โข What's it Worth?, by vei on Feb 7, 2024 18:26:29 GMT 1, My view is if you like it and can afford it buy it. Most people buy something they like or has meaning to them. That meaning may portrayed in the painting, something personal or just makes them happy.
If you look at the reason peope bought art historically it was to show wealth, status (still valid) or to buy their way into heaven.
Remember no one bought Van Goughs and the Mona Lisa sat in storage for decades before it became the most famous painting in the world. Current opinions of the value or importance of a work or itโs artist. Change.

With a bunch of frigging cherry blossoms. It may have taken him two or three decades but, at long last, Hi rst (the former punk) is now creating the kind of art he knows will make mum happy. Could you elaborate on why you find these works conceptually vacuous, and substance free? I wouldnโt argue that they are vastly challenging, but I think itโs worth bearing in mind the context in which they were created, during a period when the whole world (including Hirst) was locked away. If his stories are to be believed, these were his response to the separation of lockdowns and created by him alone locked away in his studio. (Iโm not naive enough to think it really was just him but hey, letโs give him a little artistic license)
Their release coincided almost perfectly with the general publicโs release from lock down, so much so that it was unclear if his launch show would go ahead due to Covid. Furthermore the images seem to resonate with vast swathes of the public who maybe are craving some kind of beauty and new life against an endlessly apocalyptic news cycle. To stand infront of one of these original paintings is truly a moving experience, and their scale obviously adds to that, as in so much of Hirsts work.
The purpose of โartโ and โthe artistโ is obviously up for debate, but I would argue that reflecting life and nature in a way that resonates deeply with many people would be a good one.
So yes heโs in it for the money, but I find the story of this series compelling.
