Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by alsbabar on Sept 26, 2008 21:03:25 GMT 1, I'm not sure if i'm missing some kind of missing agenda her but what is graeme doing wrong? He was lucky enough to buy a Banksy print and it's his choice what he does with it. He's selling it in order to buy more art, I don't see what's wrong with that. It's not a street piece he's nabbed off the streets or sprayed himself. Are you saying you've never sold a print to fund another one Alsabar? If Banksy doesn't want any of his work to be sold then why did himself and laz create pest control??
ermmm how about to protect the real pieces out there, to stop the fakes that have been springing up on ebay, and in auction houses.
Icky, i think you will find I am against Vermin - those wishing graeme well for tomorrow are those giving more credence/support to vermin

I agree with bits from both sides of this argument. I wish Graeme well as he has done nothing wrong as he entered the pieces long before any of this trouble erupted and should be able to sell his prints to change his collection as he wishes.
However I agree with Als a little when he says we should all boycott this auction to stand with Banksy in his effort to stamp out Vermin.
It's a difficult one to be stuck in the middle of.

i didnt moan, i was amazed they sold for the price they did, but hey i dont need to sell in order to buy, like i dont need someone to sponsor me or sell a print to go to santas ghetto
You still have the right to withdraw your piece from the sale graeme, and you didnt, so dont give me a cock and bull story about how you submitted before all this blew up.

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by senna on Sept 26, 2008 21:10:54 GMT 1, I reckon graeme501 will do well with this as
a.its just another signed print, with cast iron provenance against all the moody gear
the buyer could add, "sold @ the moodiest auction to date" to the provenance
whatever happens, all eye's are on it tomorrow
hope the legit stuff smashes records
& the rest gets smashed in transit ;D

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by They call me Stephen on Sept 26, 2008 21:12:49 GMT 1, I agree that the street pieces shouldn't be verified but your argument doesn't stand up alsbabar. i'm not trying to start a needless argument but if banksy doesn't want any of his work to be sold then why set up pest control. The only reason I can see of it is for the secondary market.

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by curiousgeorge on Sept 26, 2008 21:13:24 GMT 1, Can someone remind when the poacher turned Gamekeeper??
Why dont you go and bash the owners of Vermin instead of bullying an easy target!
Sell or dont sell, some people had the choice to support Banksy's call for the greater good, and some clearly havent. This whole vermin thing was/is a battle between good and evil and some of you thought that Banksy would lose, I think you have seen this week, what his views and desires are. Graeme and all the others who put their pieces in to this auction, and havent withdrawn their piece, have shown where their allegiances lie. Banksy doesnt produce pieces of work for sale, so any and all to just go out and sell, because they want to buy a Herakut, or a home for their kids, get a job and buy one. I hope yours dont sell, I dont give a s**t how long you been posting or how long a member you've been, you firmly attached your colours to your mast, you've been a sly f**ker from the first time i spoke you about SG07 Bethlehem, and you are still a sly f**ker today!!!

icky i think its great the amount of cohesion and support that has been given and shown, but i dont suffer fools gladly and i dont buy in to graemes reasoning, he had a choice to show his support by withdrawing his piece, and given that he is the only member on this forum who has made it known that he is selling in this auction, i am sorry, he should have then kept his mouth shut, if he doesnt want to attract negativity.

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by They call me Stephen on Sept 26, 2008 21:24:03 GMT 1, Precisely. There's a demand for his work and by Banksy producing prints he can continue to do what he does best, street work. Pest control was produced to verify prints but refuses to verify street pieces as they were never meant to be sold or gained profit from. Why is there a call for Graeme to pull his print from this auction from certain members of this forum? It is not one of the street pieces up for sale and he has full coa for the print.
Banksy has not asked for the auction to be boycotted just the street pieces
what f**king argument!! from day 1 the man has done street work & works for sale FULL STOP

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by ejvaze on Sept 26, 2008 21:41:21 GMT 1, The Title of this thread is
Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull
Please lets get agrip here Graeme's situation is Nothing to do with the sale of street art He is selling a Print not a Gift or a Piece of street art He talk re Graeme is a RED HERRING
I ask you all as collectors and SUPPORTERS of BANKSY'S work
Put yourself in this artists position
People have stolen off the street and are trying to sell your work for their OWN GAINS.
People have been given GIFTS as a THANK YOU
What do they think of the artist? NOTHING other than a MONEY SPINNER ie HOW MUCH can they make from your art.
I Personally feel if Banksy will not authenticate a gifted piece it is because it was not meant In This Case to be cut up into sections and sold as a work of art but was done in this case as a trailer and NOT AS A WORK OF ART ... why has the trailer not be sold as a unit? But split up ? Because MONEY has been the driving force in their thoughts . There has been no thought as to their so called Friend the Artist who did the artwork for them.
As I have said HOW would YOU as the artist feel?
KICKED IN THE BALLS is what I expect.
I THINK SELLING A GIFT can be the biggest KICK IN THE BALLS OF ALL if Banksy has Not sanctioned the work with a COA.
I do know of those who have sold their gifts and have been greatly respected for the way in which they have gone about it. Contacting the artist and getting his blessing and COA before parting with the work.
PERSONALLY I find it EXTREMELY SAD both as a collector and also as someone who feels very strongly for the artist that a GIFT is sold.
As for STREET ART I think I have made my views quite clear.
Lets leave the issue of Graeme alone as I said this is a RED HERRING and is NOT what the threat is about
The lack of RESPECT for BANKSYS wishes is what this thread is about

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by snausages on Sept 26, 2008 21:45:35 GMT 1, pick away as much as you like snausages, you forget the crux of the argument, BANKSY DID NOT AUTHENTICATE THESE PIECES, therefore if he didnt, then they are fake No that's not true, not authenticating something doesn't mean it's a fake, it just means he won't say one way or the other.
those who put their pieces in to this auction, and havent withdrawn their piece, have shown where their allegiances lie. OH THE DRAMA! You guys are cattier than a bunch of bitches on style forums. Give it a rest.

And I thank you for doing so Als.

It is nothing to do with us what he does NOW I fear he has left it too late to make any sort of decision other than to be swept along with the tide.
