Probably not Graeme as its doubtful that the auctioneer would knock it down at that even using auctioneers discretion, you could contact them to say offer it to the highest bidder.

just give them a call, from my understanding of reserves, it means just that.

Hello Biggerbird, Is that as a direct result of Pestcontrol? is that what you are saying? no other reason at all?.

I can ....prints have devalued since Pest Control started - LOL, house prices in my area have also dropped in the last 6 months, maybe thats a direct result of pest control..... FFS there might be a bit more going on economically than just pest control...... incidentally, I've not seen any prints with a POW / PC authentication show a drastic downturn.

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by alsbabar on Sept 27, 2008 14:20:50 GMT 1, they didnt sell because Pest Control fucked your auction up - no one took it seriously after that - to have 1 bid on streetpieces which you claimed were "real", is embarassing, and it showed that when Banksy speaks, the market listens.
This boycott wasnt just on the streetpieces, but it also impacted your prints - you whack those prints up on Ebay and they would have gone for more money. I mean 2 prints just hit their reserve - now stop trying to making excuses, accept defeat and go and cower back to your little corner

hello again....Well....it hasn't helped - bad press for Banksy is bad press for the Banksy brand - which is what he is now. Would you really want to buy 'anything' having heard what you have lately - would anyone? The more PC take such a stand - the more the press will turn and destroy the golden goose - I'm not just talking about street art.

Sorry - pressed the wrong quote button Maybe that's an argument as to why the sale didn't go to well then - for anyone Phillips seemed to go fine 3 weeks ago today, and both PC and the credit crunch have both been around alot longer than 2 1/2 weeks. The adverse publicity from both the colony room issue and the vermin issue pretty much ensured the auction under preformed compared to what some people expected. Sadly the tarnished reputation from the bad pieces screwed it up for the good pieces, If I had been selling anything today I'd be furious at L&T and the non challant attitude shown to artists and their representative vs the almighty pound, they picked their stand point and got shot in the ass in a big way for doing it. Feel sorry for those selling decent lots today, might be worth while being a tad more picky with who you sell through the next time.

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by alsbabar on Sept 27, 2008 14:35:53 GMT 1, Buggerboy - Do you honestly think Banksy or Pest Control really give a s**t about the price of his pieces in the secondary market? I also knew that your auction would flop and that you would in turn get a new arsehole, so not always wrong!!
Weaver I agree with you mate, but the sellers had a chance to withdraw their pieces, the writing was on the wall with regards to this auction, and I would like to think that it doesnt just end here. Some people need to be made accountable for their greed, and no i am not talking about the print sellers.

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by Deleted on Sept 27, 2008 14:39:24 GMT 1, So Biggerbird, i would be interested to know your opinion on how an auction house such as Lyon & Turnbull can repair any reputation they had after this sale result?, it may or may not be the fault of Vermin or even through any adverse publicity about the sale but whatever the cause it has tarnished them and people ie. both sellers and buyers in the main do not forget.

The sale at Lyon didnt go well because the credibility of the auction house selling at best unauthenticated works and at worst perhaps fakes is now in question. Banksy's work continues to perform well at other houses. Lyon will have have a hard time rebounding from this mistake.

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by alsbabar on Sept 27, 2008 15:53:47 GMT 1, and you wont hear of them after this sale
Thanks for the props pffffft, but I am glad biggerbird/robinbarton49/tenminutesfromnow/snausages and what other psuedo names he/vermin hides behind want to say stupid things or take it out of me, its a a small price to pay to see them squirm, get rumbled/busted and to see the unauthenticated streetpieces flop.
I took a stance against them and some people think I am wanker/tosser for being so vocal, but again, it allowed others to see what we have to deal with out there. Of course with the help and persistence of others on this forum, they got caught out and the results of the auction and all the negativity they are spewing out, is a direct consequence of these actions.
So f**k bankrobber, f**k robin barton, f**k jason allen, f**k vermin, f**k punk daisy, f**k lyon and turnbull, f**k ben hanley, f**k them all - you cannot cheat an lie to greed, maybe with your toff clients who dont know what they are buying - they messed with the wrong panel of experts, namely pest control/banksy and this forum!!

Banksy Statement RE: Lyon & Turnbull, by Heavyconsumer on Sept 27, 2008 16:40:03 GMT 1, Just caught up with this thread and I really can't understand what anyone representing either the auction house or Vermin, can possibly have to say at this stage. The sale failed, Vermin certificates have been ousted as worthless lies printed on paper that would be better used for wrapping chips and the auction house has hopefully learned that the only COA of any value can be arranged through Pest Control. Although maybe they'd be better off leaving this genre to those competitors happy to work within the ambits of the arists' and authenticators' best interests in future, rather than making their own rules just to pirsue a few extra quid. Cheeky beggars.
