Faile/FairQ Update, by dmandpenfold on Jul 1, 2008 9:58:18 GMT 1, Yeah but import duty customs is not as much as VAT, it's only 5 percent rather than 17.5 percent isnt it? No its 17.5 for a print. 5% for an original piece only. Still arguing with customs that vanity fight is 'technically' an original because of the handfinishing and that it is a limited edition rather than edition but they're not having it.
wavydave I think you need to argue a little harder, if the print was created by the artist, technically by his or her own fair hand then 5% is the rule, it also has to be a limited edition eg 2 of 25 or 100 or whatever, that they cant argue with. Giving them too much information is not good, let them do the research to counter your argument, the more work they have to do the less likely they are to chase it, few of them are experts in this line, i've got them to agree to turn over decisions on a number of occasions on the phone, but you need your research first. You dont have to tell them the work was created on an automated press, especially as you dont know that, or you could always contact faile to see exactly how and who produced the runs.

Faile/FairQ Update, by dh on Jul 1, 2008 10:19:12 GMT 1, I just cannot understand anyone who complains about this release, it seems that if you want a new Faile you can have one (edition of 315 still available). The rest of the work in the lottery may be old images reworked but who cares as we love the old work so its an opportunity get grab one and I think the prices are pretty good for what you are getting.

Faile/FairQ Update, by retardthebear on Jul 1, 2008 13:16:49 GMT 1, If, say one thousend people enter the lottery for each peice and you have entered five queues (as have I) then you stand a 1/1000 chance of a print. personally i havent a clue how many will enter for each peice but i thought it was interesting to work out what my odds were (even if my sums are the worst approximations ever!) Thats why i just thought screw it and bought the Tender Forever just now, which i'm very happy with, but feel i may have just also just spunked potential lottery dosh Who am i trying to kid, i want evrything on there, just have to learn to behave
errr, my bd maths are worse tan i thought, didnt take into consideration there are several of eachprint to be won. chances are still slim tho fingers crossed...

Nice one mr. I got them on the 5% ruling in the end.
customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageLibrary_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000906&propertyType=document
Told them it was:
a. Handfinished by the artist. b. 'limited' edition.
Have paid an extra £40 but could have been a lot worse + no parcelforce ' holding fees' on top. Cheers for the advice. One for all forum members to remember next time you get stung.

Faile usually ONLY release a select amount of the run. So if the edition is 5, they will release 1 now, 2 in X months, then the final 2 whenever (Laz show is a possibility).
Unless I'm mistaken, the Sexy Ad Brown is identical to the one from the previous release. So it's just the remaining editions from that run.
They could well do this to stop people selling, as if you listed it on eBay for a much higher price, they simply release the rest of the edition, which means you have trouble selling it. Only a guess mind you, it may be nothing to do with that at all.

Faile/FairQ Update, by Guest on Jul 1, 2008 23:28:38 GMT 1, the chance of getting the print you actually want, with the lottery system is very slim, you would be lucky to get your 2nd or 3rd or .........choice if your very lucky!
Good luck to those that have entered.
