POW Open Day • 2008, by pfffffffffft on Dec 7, 2008 22:32:20 GMT 1, Hey Pft... Firstly, I am interested in winning a new Banksy as like yourselves, being a huge fan, I would love to own one. If I get one, fantastic, if I dont, well I have hopefully helped the charity out with my donation. I am interested in the Odds but there is a difference between 'interest' and 'obsession/greed' which I am feeling on here from the majority of posts. I am not trying to be a saint, (I sell stuff on here and ebay) but none of the posts reflected what the open day was truly about. And to me, that is shame.
I'm seeing interest in odds, and interest in the print. And if I get one fantastic, and if I dont it's still fine. I donate to many charities. The main draw of this event were the prints available, it's not unreasonable again for those interested to discuss the odds.
Again, would you have donated to sightsavers if there was not the opportunity for you to have a print? Did you donate to sightsavers after cans?
The spirit of the event was indeed art and charity, however I dont see any greed in discussing the prizes. In fact, unless I am incorrect, the only funds going to charity were from the raffle. Not off the sale of the Basts or other pieces from POW open day.
I am sorry if you see this as greed. I'm not sure how discussing the odds or the queue equates into greed. I think greed would be those stuffing the box with more than the allotted 20 entries, and greed will be those who inevitably flip their win amongst other things.
sorry we've all f**ked you off.

Were that you two in front of me then? My pink shoulder shows on the photo... So cold, took 24 hrs to get a decent body temperature again.

POW Open Day • 2008, by edlecorgne on Dec 7, 2008 22:33:02 GMT 1, has anyone got any pictures of today? i went down with a couple of friends and we did a bit of spraying and stuck up some stickers - but as usual something goes wrong so we all managed to leave our cameras at home. Liked it there but there wasnt many people spraying, just us and Hero doing some pasting - thought there would have been loads more like cans.

POW Open Day • 2008, by alsbabar on Dec 7, 2008 22:47:24 GMT 1, i'm a bit f**ked off reading this thread. in fact, to be honest, I stopped reading after a page or 2 as I found it all a bit depressing. I went to POW at 5.30 ish today. I parked at the top of the road next to the barrier on a meter (which is free on a sunday). My middle child - aged 9 and I strolled in and there was roughly 30 people milling around. As usual with any POW event, everyone was friendly, relaxed and there was no 'hysteria' of getting a banksy as we were first in the Q etc... We had a chat and a laugh with the 'lottery' girls outside, went inside looked at the art and I dont think anyone here bothered even mentioning the banksy original of 'Thomas the tank' which we thought was fantastic. The people screening were friendly and chatty and also those on the stalls who must have been freezing their tits off for 8 hours a day. What about a thanks to them? I didn't buy anything (apart from the tickets) did not get any special treatment (before anyone asks) but, we genuinely enjoyed the 'street feel' to it even if it was only 1 degree out. I met Alsbabar for the first time (so it wasn't all great ;D) but I don't get all these POW 'knockers' on here rambling on about Queing and the odds of this or that. It wasnt about that. It was about POW opening the doors to the 'conspiracy theory' lot on here and raising good money for a decent charity that is close to the Artists' hearts. Lets thank POW for letting us all in and for giving us a fair chance to get a new Banksy whilst doing some good for those in the world less fortunate than ourselves.
It wasnt too painful meeting and talking to you either Zippy, i did wash my hands thoroughly once i got home ;D. I agree 100% with your comments - i too think it is a shame that the purpose of the event was lost on some people. I am flummoxed the same members who praised POW last week for their actions on the Nola print, then change their tune because they had to endure a queue.
Again well done POW for putting on a great event for an even greater cause.

Thought the Blue Nola and the two Micallef's looked suite. Sausage stand was also highlight. Great chilli sauce.

Mulled wine in England, Gløg in Sweden, Glögi in Finland, Vin Chaud in France, and Glühwein in Germany. Origins unclear. Probably medieval at time of origin so stating a country of origin is difficult.

POW Open Day • 2008, by richy00 on Dec 7, 2008 23:39:15 GMT 1, pfffffffft I suggest you retake gsce maths..
just because there is 150 prints doesn't mean your chances are 150 times higher.. your odds only work if they split the tickets into 150 piles and a winner is chosen for each pile...
you can argue all you like but I know I'm right.. I'd be happy to give you a free stats lesson at the next show in exchange for a beer

POW Open Day • 2008, by chablis on Dec 7, 2008 23:58:02 GMT 1, I picked up the Xenz and Eelus prints from POW, there were a lot of nice bits, and many I could easily pass on.
There was mean't to be a Eelus signing at 12pm on Sat but apparently there was a bit of a mis-understanding and I am not sure it even happened.
I was speaking to Farkfd later in the afternoon, I knew he was due to get together with Eelus, so I ask him 'Did you get a chance to catch up with Eelus?', to which he replys 'Yeah, he's standing next to you!'.
Well now I can say I've met Eelus, and I have to say he's a great guy. He re-signed the print I had, so my copy has two signatures on it. A great print of a great image, I liked the Cann's image, especially with with the Cheeky Cherubs, which I also got as a print not long ago, so am pleased with my efforts, and time invested.
I think there is much more to come from that particular creative source.
Otherwise two t-shirts, one calendar and 20 raffle tickets.

POW Open Day • 2008, by Happy Shopper on Dec 8, 2008 0:22:04 GMT 1, Really, really wish I'd had more patients and gone today instead of yesterday. Sounds like a much more relaxing time! Shame the queueing has dominated conversation, but those of us who stupidly queued for hours and hours know why... it did sort of dominate the day!
That Banksy Thomas the Tank Engine painting was amazing. Bigger than I expected. The set of 6 Bethlehem photos were interesting, although not sure I'd pay £20,000 (if I had it!) and dated from 2006 I noticed. Have these been sitting around the office for a while? Where did they pop up from?
As for chances of winning the print. Simple. 10,000 tickets in a bucket and you have 20 of them. 20:10,000 (1:500). After the first winner (if they had 20 tickets too). 20:9,980 (1:499) and so on...
