Faile Site Update, by eddiedangerous on Nov 12, 2007 20:42:28 GMT 1, i think what faile are doing is a lot more honourable and fair than the way POW do it! If they used this method f5 keys around the world would be saved, and the flippers would be thwarted as everyone has equal status (and yes I didn't get a damn trollys on pow!! and i'm hoping the cosmos will re-compensate me with one of failes little beauties) and there isn't a wasted month of f5 pressing for all involved!!

Faile Site Update, by carlito on Nov 12, 2007 20:44:55 GMT 1, I don't understand how this thwarts flippers anymore than f5'ing..if these limited pieces were put for sale in the usual way..flipper / fans etc etc would have an equal chance just as with this...they're both lotteries just different forms

Faile Site Update, by morrissey1 on Nov 12, 2007 20:56:52 GMT 1, I personally can't wait to see what they release on POW over the next couple of weeks...maybe they will be a little more affordable (not that these prices are inappropriate, but I was hoping for a print or two in the 500-700 range). Still, nice work as usual from Faile.

Faile Site Update, by eddiedangerous on Nov 12, 2007 20:58:40 GMT 1, my point was more to do with the fact that there wouldn;t be the insane pressure and build up with sites going down self emptying carts and mostly the frustration of missing the exact time in the month or spending all month waiting for it. This way (imagining there were more prints on sale) everyone can register an interest in there own time for a piece they really want not just the first "add to cart" button they see. you're right it is just a different way, but so much more dignified... no? And having gone through failes queing system just now it seems a lot harded to create several account, where flippers can have a number of computers constantly updating on different lines, cornring the marketplace in pows current format.
i just hope pow make the switch to the "faile method"!!

Faile Site Update, by arcam on Nov 12, 2007 21:25:03 GMT 1, i just hope pow make the switch to the "faile method"!! I see there no reason why they should. The situation with Faile is that their site isn't built for the traffic they were receiving. POW on the other hand have now addressed the problems they had. The site never slowed down once during the Trolleys release.

With you 100% on this one arcam. PoW did a sound job on the last release.

Faile Site Update, by eddiedangerous on Nov 12, 2007 23:18:17 GMT 1, judging by the posts on the trollys anticipation thread (which i lived on before hospitilisation for the new condition banksyf5finger) you guys were lucky to have had no probs. several people did, and i guess you both picked up a nice b+w signed each!! wish we were all so lucky!!!

Faile Site Update, by stuey09 on Nov 12, 2007 23:27:29 GMT 1, No I didn't pick up a signed B&W (I wish). My comment wasn't made from a personal perspective, but was based on the fact that the site didn't crash under pressure and everyone has an equal chance to get one. Also when a few more came back up, it gave people a second bite at the cherry. It's not a perfect way of selling the prints, but in general it worked well enough.

(all fingers are crossed) i'm bitter over the pow system because it is very hard for me in my job to be by the internet all day long on a whim and a prayer, hoping that I hit f5 at the correct time, i mean a month is 44640 minutes and thats a lot of time at a desk somewhere!!!! a the system definately seems to favour the office bods or the home ridden!!

Faile Site Update, by arcam on Nov 13, 2007 0:03:25 GMT 1, where as faile leaves it purely in the hands of the gods!! No it leaves it in the hands of FairQ.
I appreciate what you are saying but both systems have their flaws. I'm not buying into that this lottery is like the answer to all our prayers. It's not, it's just another way of selling prints, no more no less.

Faile Site Update, by dime683 on Nov 13, 2007 0:06:23 GMT 1, i give props to faile for trying something different. you cant make everyone happy. i have met patrick a few times and he is one of the nicest people i have met in the art world. not to mention sending out print to the people that got jacked by pay pal. i wish it was a normal release as i watched the prints popping up today, but its good they are trying new things.

Agreed. Some are interesting, but none really held my attention. I like the preview system. Curious to see how it pans out...

Faile Site Update, by michaelscott on Nov 13, 2007 3:04:11 GMT 1, Only 29 pieces equals a lot of angry losers... Poor faile will might just get buirned for doing the right thing... Sigh You bet they will. Too bad they didn't do this on the last batch of releases, when there were multiples of each item... With 29 pieces, the general feedback will not be as positive as it should be...or might have been on the last batch.
But then again, if it were the last batch, chances are the "flippers" wouldn't have those cool "free faile" prints to sell.
I sincerely hope, that all the good guys(and gals)on the forum, that enter, win one. (and, IMHO, Faile's efforts and approach to have a better system, is much stronger then the wares they have for sale.)

Faile Site Update, by darjeeling on Nov 13, 2007 3:13:20 GMT 1, Again... what makes YOU more deserving? Because you are at a computer right now? SomeONE is going to get it either way. Discussion over? No it's not over... Do you not understand the point that this way gives the galleries/flippers/thier partners/their mothers more chance of getting it than the fan. Fans of Faile would have known a release is today and planned for it. Just like we knew POW were going to release Trolleys when they did... First come, first served... not 8592nd served because their son told them to register to give them an extra chance in the lottery...
I can see your point and would normally agree that those fans dedicated enough to monitor the sites and wake themselves up at ungodly hours or do whatever they have to do to fight for a print might deserve it more than those who just decided to take a look see whenever they found the time or because they read a hot tip on a log or something.
but, ...do you really think 10,000 people are going to be registering for each print? These things are NOT cheap. Prices keep going up with these guys and I think they've reached a point where people are going to check themselves before spending. And the images for the most part aren't that strong in my opinion. Plus the originals are pretty small. I'm a big fan of their work but if it helps I'm not registering. And even if I was interested. I'd feel weird ab out asking my mom, brother and friends to register with faile so they have a chance to win me a $6,000 print. That I'll give them the money for. It would start getting pretty convoluted.
ANd these prints aren't going to be an easy flip. At least not for any serious profit. Least not in my opinion. Prices on practically everything are struggling right now.

Faile Site Update, by jamesreeve5 on Nov 13, 2007 8:14:28 GMT 1, So how does this lottery exactly work? I read the general rules, but I'm a bit confused about the 1 piece per lottery thing. Does this mean that if you win a piece you are automatically voided from the lotteries you have entered for other pieces? Are you only allowed to enter one lottery? It is all a bit confusing to me...

Enter all you like. You can win only one. If you lucky and win two (or more) they will contact you and give you the choice which one you want.

Faile Site Update, by jamesreeve5 on Nov 13, 2007 8:39:32 GMT 1, This lottery might be good in the long run. With so many smaller, cheaper originals in this sale it will be easy for the people at faile to track down ebay flippers and exclude them from future purchasing.
