Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by arcam on Oct 24, 2008 15:09:07 GMT 1, let it relax on it's own for a bit. I think if you force it you can cause ripples etc. Cheers. It'd could be a while then.

Not it is if it is tightly rolled. You need to give it a helping hand...

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by cynic on Nov 29, 2008 18:22:08 GMT 1, Anyone got any idea where to get a print professionally flattened? I spoke to a frame maker a while back and he said something groovy about flattening prints in a temperature controlled environment, where they reset the paper fibers memory. No longer in contact with the frame guy as I think he retired. Can anyone shine any light on this?
cheers

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by Heavyconsumer on Dec 1, 2008 4:58:21 GMT 1, I'm not an expert by any means, but logic dictates that the longer you can allow a print to uncurl naturally, the less it will need to be forced afterwards and the less stress is put on the fibres. So the less chance of having them react and the print trying to curl up later in its' frame. I allow mine to uncurl as much as possible naturally first and after a couple of weeks I give them a helping hand with tissue paper, then some brown paper and then LOADS of books across the whole surface area for as long as possible (maybe another few weeks) before putting them into a folio or a frame.

Speaking to them a while back they mentioned having a vaccum that flattens prints though im not sure how effective it is. There is a print restorer based on wapping road if its a major job, im waiting to pick some pieces up from him nest week.

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by ©hief' on Sept 5, 2009 19:46:30 GMT 1, Had a similar problem. Took my print to a paper / art restorer - she floated it on water for a couple of days then dried it in-between acid free tissue paper in a press for about 10 days, changing the paper every 1 to 2 days. £40 all in.
