My framer (a local gallery owner) shared with me that a new museum glass technology is just around the corner (release to be sometime this summer) that finally addresses this problem. If it were easier to maintain, I would use it on more art. Now, I just use museum glass on the most expensive pieces that are small enough to make the difference in price worth the extra clarity and protection.

I've used this in our house where we have a room with a lot of windows. Easy to put up yourself and basically invisible if you're careful.
Have been trying to put some on a 1m by 1.5m skylight though and have had to admit defeat and pay for an expert to come and do it.
Most of my art is framed with an anti-reflective glass that I've been reliably informed is about 65-70% UV proof so I work on the basis that even if this isn't 99% we should be just about be OK! Also nothing is actually hung in direct sunlight.

I've had something framed recently and I've got a feeling that I haven't got what I asked/paid for with regards to the level of anti-reflection which also gives me concerns about the level of UV protection.
How do others go about checking that what they've been given is what they were expecting?

On the UV side of things your gunna be hard pushed to find out i reakon, unless it's lazer etched/coded by its manufacturer.

Has quoted me prices on standard glass, UV protective and museum glass.
Long story short is that he honestly feels that the UV is a waste of money as modern prints have properties within the inks which are far more resilient than they used to be. Says hes happy to frame up using the UV stuff and charge me for it but feels it's not worth the extra cash.
Past framers I've used have never raised this topic with me, simply framing up with the UV as requested.
I know the majority of you use the UV so I'm curious to hear your honest opinions/thoughts on this.
** I understand that paper takes a hit when exposed to sunlight but do we honestly feel that our prints will be tarnished in 20-40 years time? **

my framer has two identical prints framed side by side on the wall of his studio in bright natural light. one is glazed with uv, the other regular glass. both prints look identical after more than 10 years on the wall.
more often than not, problems down the line come from the damage uv light can cause to certain paper stocks, and indeed from the materials the print may be in contact with within a frame. external forces such as heat, humidity, pollutants in the air etc., should also be considered more worthy of attention and expense than uv filtering glass.
to this end, i insist on using only acid-free moldings and fillets, solidcore mountboard, and foil moisture barriers within all of my frames.

Yes the price jump is huge, but with the much more expensive museum glass, it performs the same functions but without the frosty effect seen with cheaper non reflect glass.

There are so many variables involved, chemistry is complicated and ongoing. If you have something of value or something you want to change as slowly as possible, use good uv glass and do not display in direct sunlight. That will reduce the rate of reaction. Uv is a major catalyst.

If you don't mind paying extra and prefer glass which is non reflective when you look at the art, then go for UV.
Other things to consider in countries which have damp cold weather is condensation and damp and mould.

The costs are alot more than 'standard framing' and I'm really not a man of means but I'm doing my collection slowly and what I perceive to be well. I try and think about it spread over many years and the number of times I'll look at them.
For me, the low reflective quality is incredible - almost as if there is no glass at all and when put next to reflective glass is astonishing.
UV stuff is for piece of mind but I'm willing to accept that that might be a slight waste of money with some of the things I'm framing.
I would plump for low glare / reflection glass above everything as it changes the viewing experience. My assumption has always been that it only comes in UV glass so that decision is made for me also.
