It hasn't faded at all. Also I think I cut the bottom off the print to get it into the frame, cutting off the edition number and signature! Let's say it's all a learning curve!

mind you I just bought 4 of the 100cm by 70cm frames from habitat and I haven't bothered with the whole acid-free thing... I LOVE acid.

I replaced the backing of my Habitat frames with Corrie-Core which is acid free and also a lot less dusty than the hardboard back they do come with.

Actually I was wrong it's called Corrie-Cor, I've just googled it and even though it's a registered trade mark brand name, nothing is coming up, try asking your framer. Basically its like a good quality cardboard, pretty strong and rigid.

yeah, sorry I didn't read the post properly and all the way through.
But I bought a acid-free peice of mountboard from my framers for ยฃ10 - it's about 5mm thick and i've used it for spacers on loads of my stuff and it works really well. although the proper spacers do sound better if you can get hold of them

I came across this article where they've deliberately put prints in a situation of extreme exposure to daylight and compared fading & discolouring between unprotected and protected areas

OK these are Japanese woodblock prints, one in 'modern' inks, one not and this doesn't directly relate to the inks and paper stocks that the work most of us collect are done on or with, but the results would suggest that it really makes, practically, fuck all difference.
I know there's at least one pro framer (Misterframeman) on here and several galleries, artists, printers... so does anyone have any damaged/NG/reject prints and access to an 'off-cut' of UV glass or perspex and feel inclined to conduct their own experiment and post results over time?
Or has anyone here already done something like this?

was he asking for the wrong thing? should it be ยฃ250 for glass for giwtbb?

my mate is actually a joiner to trade. i have been trying to convince him for a while that he should consider doing picture framing. he has looked into it a bit but hasn't been able to find any courses.
the one thing i had considered in the short term is getting prints which won't be anywhere near direct sunlight framed up with normal glass but then replace it at my leisure if i truly can pick up uv glass for that sort of price.

schott & Luxar uv isnt as good @ 84 % the same for G&M Range

all prices vary a bit on thicknes, quantity etc and all other factors.
but i have been seeing if i can get frames made and then fit the expensive glass myself it turns out you can find a good framer who will do a good job and price it right or do it yourself and bite your nails,

the framer said the uv glass he was quoting ยฃ250 for would only shut out 95% of uv (he was advising against the extra expenditure and suggesting that i should just find a place away from direct sunlight).
i'm not sure if he was allowing for spoilage. he did say that he had to take off the edges because you could see where the glass had been held while it was dipped and that the uv protection scratched quite easily.

Anti-glare is great stuff but in my experience with sharp photography images you do lose a bit of sharpness, I'm probably on the point of OCD about stuff like this

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by Happy Shopper on Apr 28, 2008 23:02:48 GMT 1, It cuts down reflections and has a UV filter, but the framers I've spoken to told me that they don't think it's worth the money, and they've done museum stuff.
I got 2 sheets of it for by Banksy prints, but I'm not sure about using it for everything. My Banksy prints hadn't faded behind the normal glass and they were up for a couple of years !!

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by sahoria on Apr 28, 2008 23:14:24 GMT 1, thanks for the posts...really appreciate....romanwyg the faile does look amazing... i think i am tempted to go for the MQG for the LTS print ... alot of windows so i know constantly there is glare and reflections so think be good choice....once again thanks for the posts do really appreciate it , just nice to get opinions from forum members rather than reading from sites that offer the service...s

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by gozgoz on Apr 28, 2008 23:21:57 GMT 1, yeah someone did tell me u had to use a special spray to clean it. cos if someone touches it, and in all likelihood thats what usually happens because they cant see the glass... its impossible to wipe away the fingerprints. true?

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by romanywg on Apr 28, 2008 23:23:14 GMT 1, They do talk about Museum quality and UV glass nowadays, but most of my art, which are originals and bought over 15 years ago and pressed directly (I know!) against the glass, have not faded at all. So basically, it's bollox!
