It is expensive but on certain prints it is well worth the money, it's allmost as if there is no glass there! If you go to your local framers they should be able to show you the glass side by side with ordinary glass, you will be able to see the difference for yourself!
Both of the following were 'glazed' with Anti Reflection White Water u?v, photo's don't really give the true effect, however you can see the effect on the 21stCL by the minimal reflection of my camera flash (small purple dot) I would never have been able to take this photo full on with ordinary glass!

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by dodge on May 8, 2008 19:11:03 GMT 1, I got some prints recently and was wondering whether or not they are worth the extra expense of getting UV glass. They are Evan Hecox/Shepard Fairey prints that only cost around ยฃ75 each.
All my Banksy's are UV framed as I don't want to risk them fading but I am getting conflicting advice from different framers. One framer said it is not worth the extra expense unless they are going to be hanging in direct sunlight all day every day (they are not). Another said that even normal light will damage prints unless your curtains are permanently drawn. Someone even said that UV glass doesn't make a massive amount of difference and prints will always fade no matter what!
Most of my cheaper prints (up to value of ยฃ250) just have normal glass in them and I don't fancy the cost of getting them replaced.....
Anbody got any wise words?

I think I have just joined your OCD club. I just got a quote to get my old prints upgraded to new glass! ha ha.

It's Museum glass that gives the 'oh my god where is the glass' effect
IMO use non reflective for stuff that is in direct light or prints that dont have fine detail.

Needless to say I have gone for a good quote but have now been thrown a curve ball by the framer.
They have a new conservation glass UV called Mirorguard plus which they say is remarkable as you can not see the glass at all. It's around 84% against the museum 98% UV protection but they say is amazingly clear. It's around ยฃ290 against ยฃ340 on the Museum and I'm not sure what to go for. (It's for a denning original on paper) They claim this is clearer than the museum.
Has anyone seen this mirrorguard glass, purchased it?
For anyone interested .... the cheap end of the quotes where from (london and south):
framers (wimbledon - actually the cheapest by ยฃ40 but too late as I had already made arrangements) arch one otterspool studio and fish frames (who I have gone for as they are very close by) mr frameman was not bad but didn't get back to me on the final sizing

The problem isn't fading, it's that your print may stick to the glass. When you come to re-frame it you may (or may not) have a nasty surprise.
It doesn't happen always, but when it does, your print is completely ruined.
- Light will fade the print (prevent this using UV filter glass & keep out of direct sunlight)
- Acid will burn paper - leaving a nicotine style stain (prevent this using acid free backing, tape and mount card)
- Moisture will ripple the print (and aid print sticking to the glass)
If you need a budget solution - then get a ready made frame that has an aperture roughly 6" wider and taller than your print. Ask your local framer to cut a piece of backing board and a double/triple mount to fit the print to the frame. And fit it yourself if you have the gear.
A mount isn't expensive, and it makes a huge difference.
The spaced idea is nice too... but fiddly if you're doing it yourself.

Because of it's size (over 1m square), my framer has suggested that the Tru vue Museum Glass should not be used as this is not thick enough and might crack when transported. He's also warned me against the acrylic version. This leaves me with either just UV protection - 3mm glass, or a anti-reflective Mirogard glass that has a blue-green tint (which I don't want!).
I'd be very grateful for any advise, not sure what to do!
