No brakes, the rider quickly just shifts his weight over the headtube/stem to lock-up or slow the crank and rear wheel. Then, they quickly shift their weight back over the seat to increase the pressure on the contact patch. No brakes. Which tells me 'fixie' riders go through a lot of rubber.
But, how much fun can a 'fixie' bike REALLy be... if you can't jump it?!
This is where(Hidden Valley in HB, CA.), and how, I ride... 20in, DH/freeride or bust, for me!
Team Soil - owned and operated by my buddy Ryan 'barspinner' Brennan.

They were meant for the velodrome and as one poster mentioned picked up by messengers for there simplicity. I like the look of fixies very clean simple looking bikes. I know alot of messengers here in NYC and they eventually all end up messing up there knees from the force of stopping. If you like track frames and want to ride only one gear at least get a cog that coasts (like bmx bike) and get yourself brakes. There's really nothing advantageous to riding fix unless your training or care about looks.

Nah Silk, you cant go wrong with a BMX I loved mine and road all the time.

yep cycling around with your knees up by your ears isnt a good look and probably very uncomfortable to boot
