god....some real wankers out on fixies ...........especially round shoreditch seriously affected (or afflicted) nathan barley dumped his bmx it seems and dresses like a courier now but i like the old bikes though . nice and simple but forget the playing cards in the spokes and the pink rims . i respect the ones in san francisco who ride these massive hills on one gear !

My dad lent me an old Freddy Grub fixie when I was track racing at the velodrome a couple of years back. You should have seen the look on the national squads face when I raced against them on a 1950's creaker! ;D

Does anyone know if they can be picked up cheap around London? Just moved over and really need some wheels to get around!

I'm actually building one at the moment too!
I bought a 2nd hand Raleigh racing bike because of it's amazing old frame and bars and I'm going to take it apart and fit the bits and bobs to it!
Been to a few places though and had quotes of up to £300 just for low spec wheels and gear set! Might have to go 2nd hand again!

Is there anywhere people know on the web that is good for buying bits?
I hear Evans cycles is quite good. Anywhere else!?

You really should be able to pick up decent groupsets off the bay - wheelset's run through cheap also to get your Raleigh looking good. Project for me next year is to re build a Bianchi , the old duffers that ride in bike clubs love it! (no offense if you are said old duffer).

I dont ride vintage, I ride an Argon 18 road bike to keep the flab at bay but my mates got an OM Flyer which is very nice....I'd recommend.

I moved to East London and I love it except for one thing: Retarded hipster morons on fixed gear bikes. They're fucking everywhere, with their lurid wheel rims, big shades, a flatcap and inability to stop quickly. Couriers started the fashion because they ride ALL DAY so the 'low maintenance' argument kind of makes sense, but if you only have one to swan around Hoxton square then you are officially a wanker. I have a shitload of gears on my bike and ride it for 2 hours a day, it hardly needs any maintenance at all and it's a lot faster than a "fixie". Do not buy one in an attempt to look cool, it will not work, because you will pass far more people thinking "what a dick" than the few who think "whoa man nice rims I gotta get rid of my front brake"

I don't understand this thread. They're like bikes, but without gears or brakes? (or pedals in the case of the one above) And that makes them cool or good how? What's the advantage?

i just bought a dolan (uk olympic team) track bike for her indoors .......i am kinda worried ! mines got 20 gears hers has 1 .
