Failing that big Sam Allerdice!
Nice comment Tirol, thanks!! I am passionate about England but I have to say they simply didn't deserve to qualify long before last nights game. Too much money and no fucking passion, grit or determination. Got what they deserved but the fans didn't!! Now all the players can have a nice summer off, reeling in the money and we have fuck all to look forward to!
Thanks McLaren and your bunch of over paid prima donna's for fuck all!!!!!!

Good point Harveyn. I think half the problem of English managers over the last 15 years, with the exception of Venables, is that they've had no personality or charisma. Could Eriksson, Maclaren, Hoddle, Taylor motivate a team? I severely doubt it.
Which is why, and I can't believe I'd ever say this, I think Morinho would actually be a great appointment. Yes, he's up his own arse, but there would never be a dull moment, and he'd never bore the England players into producing some of the displays we've seen recently.
Another one in my mind is Harry Redknapp. A great character and the sort of person who always gets players playing no matter what their outlook or mental state. Having said that, I do have my reservations about him if he can't do his wheeling and dealing!
Whatever happens, I think the FA need to look at the way they appoint. I'm sick and tired of managers getting a four or five year contract, only lasting less than two years before everyone wants them out, and then refusing to resign to get a massive pay out. I know it's not the most attractive prospect to entice new managers, but I still think contracts should be on a two year tournament to tournament basis.

Spot on. Capello or Lippi would be a good choice. Hiddink or Mourinho too. The absolute priority though is experience.
There is no point in making a full time appointment now. we need to wait until after Euro 2008 when the managerial merry go round will have taken place.

Next England manager?, by finsburyparkranger on Nov 22, 2007 13:30:14 GMT 1, Englands big problem doesn't have anything to do with managers in my book. Its about the fact that kids outside my parents house don't play in the street or on the golf course at the back like they did 25 years ago. At the front after school there used to be 20 kids on bikes, skateboards, roller skates, 123 kick the tree and at the back there was footy and tree climbing when the golfers had f**ked off home in the long summer months. In those days there was even more traffic on the road because it wasn't blocked off like the road is today. With the fear of strangers and the love of the play station kids no longer run around enough in this country. Sports wise, immigration is our saving grace but if you took that out of the equation we would be up the f**king swanie. The only way we can change this culture is to allow the kids that want to play more organised sport at school and after school to do so and be quick to allow school leavers to continue sports, not cut them off from everything when they leave. As well as much more money going into competitions at youth levels with prize incentives. After all it only saves money on the NHS at the end of the day. If something major doesn't happen soon sports wise in this country (and we tighten up on immigration), you can forget us winning a world cup for the next 100 years, regardless of how inspiring the manager is.

Next England manager?, by mike hunt on Nov 22, 2007 14:46:17 GMT 1, A friend of mine was a football agent and he always used to comment that there was no skill training whatsoever at premiership clubs. Just fitness, speed and power - they rarely look at players who are small. Kids don't play outside so much anymore so its up to our youth systems to sort this out. Instead, players like rooney come through despite the system, like a freak of nature. English players will only compete with foreign players if they are as good or better. Saying this, like anything else, its all about the man at the top - countries with far worse and less players than us do much better. I'd like mourinho, but I heard they were grooming shearer for the job - little or no managerial experience at the top end of the footbal world seems the norm for England. We want someone with international experience (and preferably experience in the premiership) who has a track record in motivating mediocre teams to punch above their weight. I would say that gives O'neill a chance too, seing as he fulfils some of the criteria.

It would be fascinating to see what he could do with the pick of any player he wanted on the big stage. And the other plus is he's an incredibly likeable bloke.
