But stuff like 'Let the right one in' or really intense thrillers 'Cape fear'. But have been recommended 'Berberian sound studio', 'The blood on Satan's claw' and of course the original 'The Wicker man'. I guess 'Rosemary's baby' and 'Psycho' deserve mentions too.

[wretches and wipes mouth] Bit of me thinks you enjoyed writing that??!! Hostel (s) are pretty savage. Really nasty what happens to the kids eyes! Yuck. Who's gonna want to live after that?? TTCM is great, lovely sense of dread and terror. Think it's scary because to us it's senseless. Great when one of the lead protagonists is hung up on a butcher's hook! Or when the old half decaying "Grandpa" tries to stab her with a fork / knife. He he!

The Best Film Ever, by Coach on Nov 2, 2014 15:51:11 GMT 1, Has anyone seen Mr Turner yet? I heard that Tomothy Spall actually learnt to paint for the film. I saw one of his paintings and it was incredibly good. I had hoped to go and see it today since it was released on Friday. But my local cinema isn't showing it. Bloody middle England.

Shame Mr Brainwash didn't learn to paint for his role in 'Exit Through the Gift Shop'

The Best Film Ever, by Hubble Bubble on Nov 12, 2014 9:30:39 GMT 1, I was extremely disappointed with INTERSTELLAR -- a modern day mash up of 'Event Horizon' and 'Contact' - both of which 'did it better'. It reminded me of Miss Ann Elk in the Monty Python 'Dinosaur Theory' sketch, when she describes her dinosaur theory as 'Dinosaurs are very thin at one end, thick in the middle and thin at the other end'. Wellโฆ Interstellar was a bit like that. Two hours of rather dull but perfectly filmed cinema - with far too much expository dialogue - leads to a mildly interesting section with visuals straight out of 'Inception' - followed by a rather trite Hollywood ending.
I love Nolan but don't get this automatic adulation of his movies. To me, he's become weaker over time. I count Memento and Insomnia his greatest pieces.
Interstellar is a classic case of The Emperor's New Clothes, me thinks.
No doubt many will disagree -- that's the beauty of a forum. I'd be interested to hear what you think.

The Best Film Ever, by balibob on Nov 12, 2014 10:23:46 GMT 1, Two films I've watched this past week, Godzilla - very boring, apparently I should have turned the sound off and watched it backwards as it makes it into a film about a couple of monsters who moonwalk out of the sea and help to rebuild a city. Then - A Long Walk To Freedom - good film, not great as they missed a lot of crucial things out, but a very good performance by Idris.

The Best Film Ever, by Hubble Bubble on Nov 21, 2014 22:55:40 GMT 1, Back from a Friday afternoon triple bill.
First up was THE IMITATION GAME. Enjoyed but felt the script lacked clarity, focus and detail of the mechanics of the code breaking. Ben was good and will probably get an Oscar nom coz The Academy likes that kind of performance.
Then went into THE DROP. A take of two halves. Fell asleep in the first but loved the second. Tom Hardy's laconic performance really grew on me and I was reminded of what a loss Gandolfini was.
Then I met up with my youngest daughter to see THE HUNGER GAMES:MOCKINGJAY - PART 1. Seen all these movies with her and I'm a big fan of the series. This is all a bit grimmer though... more hunger, less games you might say. But Jen Lawrence is terrific and it's once again great to see family cinema that makes you think.
