Music Chat, by Run Pig Run on Mar 1, 2007 18:45:06 GMT 1, Hey bombhugger. You are in for a real treat when you go to see the rakes. I saw them a few weeks ago at kings college union & the new stuff is great. They seem to be getting better as i first saw them early 2005. Bit of a indie kid myself,(that's if you can be a kid at 33) Started going to gigs at 15 & have seen some greats from nirvana to the maccabees the other night. This is a great thread by the way.
quality, the last rakes album has been played 67 times according to my ipod.

Music Chat, by frank11 on Mar 1, 2007 18:47:46 GMT 1, LW.. you mention Doves. not listened to their stuff but wernt they Sub-Sub back in the day? Might be right up my street if so? they were indeed sub-sub until their studio burnt down and all their music was lost. they've re-invented themselves as a kind of epic guitar band, hard to define them really. very versatile and one of the best live bands i've seen. for a band that have had 2 number one albums they don't get anywhere near enough credit. they've left their funky house days behind them i'm afraid.
The last broadcast is an amazing album that everyone should own!! ;D

Music Chat, by brut on Mar 1, 2007 18:49:59 GMT 1, Hi lesbianwednesdays. The maccabees were excellent the other night & well worthy of any hype that surrounds them at the mo. I have seen a few bands who have been hyped & are bloody awful live(the horrors being a good example) but the maccabees are a great live band. You are right about their latest single.Real class. If you type the maccabees into google & go to the bbc link on the right of the page you will be able to listen to a few of their other songs. First love is a real cracker.

Music Chat, by tomhills1 on Mar 1, 2007 18:57:39 GMT 1, cheers brut, for the horrors read the view the worst band i've seen in about two years. not so much that they can't play but why the hype? better bands doing covers in pubs IMO.
i'm out the loop a bit for new music, it does take up quite a bit of time to weed out the crap. any suggestions in relation to straight up indie/rock bands would be welcome.
gone all scouse on my ipod this week with the coral, la's, zutons and little flames being caned on their own little playlist.

If you like scouse pop make sure you check out The Wombats. They're going to be massive this year, as they're about the catchiest band i've ever heard. I've got an mp3 on my site at the moment, as well as the brilliant video to 'Backfire at the Disco', which takes the piss out of some Cliff Richard effort from the 80s.... you'll just need to scroll down a wee bit.

I think he will become more popular as the year goes on.His myspace site is well worth a listen. Have you heard anything by the rifles? If you like the Jam then you will love the album. It is called no love lost.Every song on it is a real belter & they have done fairly well without the hype given out by the NME. I love the Coral & they have a album out this year but have to say i can't wait for the new rakes album.

yeah, i came across the gossip after seeing them on popworld would you believe, long before the nme didn't put beth ditto on their cover despite being number 1 in their "cool" list. not got the rifles album although someone i know's band supported them and swears by them, should pull my finger out really!
it goes to show the state of "new" music by the nme tour. last year i saw we are scientists, who must have something out this year, arctics and maximo park. this year: the automatic, the view, the horrors? oh dear.
the little flames i know have an album out end of the month/early april. saw them twice last year and can't wait for that to drop.
how would you describe jack penate?
saw kings of leon a week ago and have their new album, makes the fratellis et al look pathetic. and i quite like them!

friend of a friend! it's out in april, PM me your address if you like and i'll send you a copy. it must be on the net somewhere if you do downloads (non-legal!) called because of the times. i'm prone to exagerations but it is up there with youth and young manhood, it's not as instant more a slow burner but i love it all the more for it. track 5, black thumbnail has to be a single, it's a much more complete album than the last one, really flows from start to finish. they did quite a few new ones last week and they sound even better live. class.

She wanted a hate too stong print by Lucy, sold out at POW.......not at beat13 though (hint hint if anyone wants one or a warrior bird)! So she doesn't know that that has arrived, gonna get her some Julian Opie postcards (the one's where the ladies take their clothes of in a hologram style) a book on an art project that the name slips me now and Gus Gus album. Cheers for the heads up on that.
