Any market players/traders on this board???, by bostonlongstroke on Sept 12, 2008 17:59:14 GMT 1, It's been a rough time in the markets, the past few months. Too rough, in fact!
When markets fall this far, this fast, it's an over-reaction panic move. Smart investors see these times as ripe opportunties.
I started tellin' my clients the end of last week, that the markets couldn't maintain this pace. It would trigger a depression, if so.
So, I posted a few of my trade suggestions on thegiant.org forum, a couple days ago.
Here's a link to the thread I posted my trade suggestions on...
forum.thegiant.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12676
By some odd stroke of good fortune, the market gods answered my prayers with a resounding "We got you covered, pal!"
If there are any traders on this forum, I'd enjoy throwin' around trade ideas periodically, if the forum permits.

www.alaron.com/quotes_charts.aspx
However, for anyone considering getting into these markets for the 1st time, do not do it through this Alaron firm. I've worked with them before. And, their service couldn't be described as 'awesome'.

Any market players/traders on this board???, by pw on Sept 12, 2008 18:57:41 GMT 1, in my opinion, a good bet right now is gold. the $ had a good time lately and this will likely reverse soon as it continues its long term decline.

Any market players/traders on this board???, by bostonlongstroke on Sept 12, 2008 19:11:58 GMT 1, I totally agree!
Gold typically moves inversely to the $Index.
Oct Gold is up $20/oz @ 761.5/oz. That equates to $2k per trade, from just today's move. If you have 10 Gold Futures contracts, you just made $20k today!
Every dollar move in the price of Gold, equals $100 per position held in that market. Commodities have various contract specifications. That create different point values, in different commodities.
For example...
In the grains, every penny of price change in Soybeans(S), Wheat(W), or Corn(C), equates to $50 per trade/position held.
In Coffee(KC), every penny of price change equates to $375 per trade.
In Lt Sweet Crude, every dollar of price change equates to $1k per trade.
etc.

Any market players/traders on this board???, by bostonlongstroke on Sept 13, 2008 2:40:10 GMT 1, To brun and etched...
Why are you 2 so vehemently against investing? And, yes, this is an art forum. However, I've seen a number of different threads that are not remotely related to art.
It's abundantly obvious that the are a few members on here that invest. Much to your dismay and disgust, I'm sure.
Also, whether you like it or not, art collecting has a LARGE investment element to it.
You're not obligated to post on this thread. If it's of no interest to you... move on!
So, thanks for the invitation to the gallows, etched. In return, I cordially invite you to lay on the nearest set of commuter train tracks!

yeah - probably the best way of securing the services of a stockbroker - an anonymous internet site.

It's always struck me as hilarious that the only people who can now afford some of the 'street' art here, and especially Banksy's work, are the very people he was aiming his barbs at.
It's somewhat masochistic to pay thousand for something to hang on your walls that basically says 'You are an asshole'. But I guess masochism is a very British thing with a long and proud history.
When people pay big bucks for a lame print saying they are morons for buying said print it goes beyond irony.
Of course, I am equally amused by Banksy's attempts to 'keep it real' and 'democratize' art. If he wants to do that, he should release all his work in unlimited editions, or simply not release it all. At least previous profiteers like Warhol and Dali had the decency to admit that they were capitalistic carnivores.

Any market players/traders on this board???, by snausages on Sept 13, 2008 16:17:30 GMT 1, I used to "trade" on technicals but gave it up awhile ago, was just way too much work and stress. Now I just do a little ofthe old traditional time based "investing." Boring I know. Anyway if you're serious about trading you should DEFINITELY check out www.interactivebrokers.com
And I wouldn't assume that the dollar is going to go back into its "long term decline" - technically speaking the USD broker through major long term downtrend. Chances are significant that the bottom is in even if it does retrace its recent breakout. Which makes sense as the rest of the world starts to feel the pinch now that the US started feeling awhile ago.

Many other currencies are looking very overvalued these days.
