Antony Micallef - Lazinc line, by lesbianwednesdays on Sept 19, 2007 17:05:50 GMT 1, was this not just a whole PR stunt though? i say that because the attitude of those in charge did seem to me to be that so long as the prints sold out, it served it's purpose.
when we were there last night, the guys packed up the shop just after eleven and were taking photos of the overnighters then, plenty of staff taking pics when they arrived too and up 'til the doors opened.
i know they must be pleased with the demand and dedication but to appear to slap that back in good people's faces i don't think is good enough.
like i said before, imagine the queues if these prints were actually any good

Antony Micallef - Lazinc line, by robo on Sept 19, 2007 17:14:49 GMT 1, I'm fu**ing pissed off and fu**king knackered - i stood in line for over 8 hours and came away with nothing; same old story - when i got there about 170 people in front of me, but the queue "magically" thickened as mates and mate's mates arrived. Had to stand in a piss-stinking alley for half that time; nearly got hit by several cars rushing through; was standing near the fight when someone rushed towards me saying they had a knife; saw the police arrive; saw the people who went round with their mates again and again and loaded up a car with at least 20 prints.
The only tiny consolation was the lovely people who I stood with.
I do this cos i love great artwork and i really belived in Micallef, but i'm left feeling like i've been totally conned and treated like shi*t by a galley that i've already given lots of good money too. A gallery that doesn't care about its customers and doesn't care about wasting hours of people's time - in total probably 3 man-months of people's time wasted just today.
To top it all, i missed out on the POW print too. Double blow.
So, I say bring on the new brilliant underground artists who do not yet attract this craziness. I'm not gonna be spending my money at Laz or on Ebay - i'm saving it to invest in all the great talent that is out there just waiting to be discovered.
(p.s. if anyone can find it in their hearts to + my respect count, which for some reason got depleted, it would really soothe my aching legs

Antony Micallef - Lazinc line, by sham69 on Sept 19, 2007 17:30:38 GMT 1, It does beg the question that to save everyone the heartache why didn't staff simply go through the line starting at the front, ask people what they want, take a name and print choice and then give out a cloakroom ticket or something. Numbered one to 800.
It's not rocket science, it sounds like by about 10 am this morning they could have apologised to all those who were likely to miss out and everyone could have gone home without wasting any more time.
I guess Laz.inc are probably more interested in having the queue and the PR of showing the world how popular they are. Nightclubs use a similar psychology by making everyone wait in a queue, it seems to up the exclusiveness. Then when you get in, the bloody place is empty. it's all marketing sh***.

Antony Micallef - Lazinc line, by simongoff on Sept 19, 2007 17:46:14 GMT 1, I have to say that the Neate release was a different ball game altogether, I was hoping to get a couple of prints and was 3rd in line but the very polite staff came out and told everyone to be fair it was one per preson, we were all given tickets, very ordered and not at all like the farce today.
My G/f has just told me the full fight story and she had someone land on her and got knocked about a bit, it all sounded very nasty too. I saw the people and they were trying to push in all morning. I am furious about this, Laz can create the hype but it is their duty to make it safe and having 3 security on the door just does not cut it for me, I agree they should have givemn tickets out asked what people wanted etc. I will never be q'ing for a Laz release again and I was one of the lucky ones, well it was the missus that put the full 12 hours in, me only 7

Antony Micallef - Lazinc line, by robo on Sept 19, 2007 17:52:17 GMT 1, A ticket system has worked in butcher's shops for decades; why Laz couldn't implement one I don't know. You pick up a ticket when you arrive; then you wait your turn and place your order. That way no pushing, no fighting and you can even go to the loo. I believe its what they used to call "first come first served".
