Damien Hirst Superstition Poster, by numusic on Apr 18, 2007 8:47:51 GMT 1, Curley, I just bought one and when I bought it, I accpeted that this could be the case. Thus, it's not something that I don't want to hear because it would affect me. But why put "100 available"? Could you give me one reason"?
One reason is that the people selling them are professional salesmen, it's what they do, use practiced and basic psychology to make you believe you want something when you really don't. Good ones go up to the line but rarely cross it (unless the price is right), which is the case here.. the definition of "available" is open to interpretation. Most dealers like art, but they like money more

Damien Hirst Superstition Poster, by Strange Al on Apr 18, 2007 8:48:13 GMT 1, I thought that signed would be limited to 100. However, I went on othercriteria to see out of curiosity how many unsigned had been sold. I noticed that it's indicated "more signed posters available soon"...and the price is now 100ยฃ... BTW: I think this is really bad and stupid from othercriteria and Damien Hirst. They did not say that it was limited. But what other reasons to put a number (100 available) than misleading people? As its a unlimited poster they can go away and get some more signed whenever they sell out. i know its not what people want to hear not there is nothing to stop selling another 100 and another 100......Its not a closed edition as far as i know.
I know it may be disappointing, but I don't think that Othercriteria have been in any way misleading. In fact, Tadg even posted a quote from an email from othercriteria earlier on this thread which made it 100% clear these aren't limited edition posters. Not to mention the countless other warnings from forum members (oh - Nu already did)
Look at it this way, you've got a nice signed Damien Hirst poster to hang on your wall which already retails at over 30% more than you bought it for less than a couple of weeks ago. That's got to be a winner!

I also think that in this case simple demand may have been a major factor. I don't actually doubt that Othercriteria only had 100 available when they originally listed them. Though after selling them out in minutes and getting countless additional enquiries, I'm sure they were straight on to Mr Hirst. As has been mentioned previously, Hirst could probably sign a couple of hundred posters an hour. That's almost ยฃ15K cash for an hour of his time. Not to mention he's doing a service for his fans by making more available at "reasonable" prices.

Jjoschi44, I would not ask for a refund because there are more than 100. And if go up in the subject, you will see that I was more worried about where the signature is than about the numbers. It's not the fact that there are more than 100 posters that annoys me, but their sales strategy. Thus, the fact that the price increased annoys me.

I agree. Great post. I am really not dealing with art and don't know this market. But, I feel this is a bit dangerous and thus stupid. People buying posters are certainly different people from the ones buying originals. But from a total outsider, I feel dangerous to look too much like a salesman.

one can only assume that at that time there were 100 available. (and that they may make another 100 available)
Its suitably ambigous, does not say limited to 100.
At the end of day this will only affect the people who bought multiple copies to sell on. Anyone who bought it for the image etc should be happy that they have a poster signed by DH. ;D

Damien Hirst Superstition Poster, by sausageboonwee on Apr 18, 2007 10:16:41 GMT 1, Personally, I really like the posters and it's a nice touch they are signed. I'm not too concerned there are going to be more available, it allows more people to own them which is only fair. The only thing I'm not happy about is that mine haven't arrived yet. Anyone else not received theirs yet?

Well... it may not be special value-wise, but I think having a signature (okay, autograph) of a legend is still pretty darn special to me personally... and especially for only ยฃ75, which isn't cheap, but is a steal all things considered. Many things don't have to be limited to be special... I've got a CD signed by all 5 Spice Girls (don't ask) that's certainly not limited, but still pretty darn special to me! ;D
Of course, 'special' is extremely subjective, so I guess it really depends on the motivations of the individuals that led to the purchase
BTW gamegirl: A big warm welcome to the forum to ya! ;D

Anyway, like I said... 'special' is a highly subjective

email from Kate at Other Criteria...
Thanks for your email.
As you can imagine, we have a lot of orders to despatch having sold out within a day of the Damien Hirst signed posters. We are giving the despatch of all orders the maximum priority, but I can't say exactly when each order will be despatched I'm afraid. As per the delivery terms on our site, all orders will be despatched in 28 days from the order date.
Best wishes

Damien Hirst Superstition Poster, by numusic on Apr 18, 2007 14:10:11 GMT 1, Curley, I just bought one and when I bought it, I accpeted that this could be the case. Thus, it's not something that I don't want to hear because it would affect me. But why put "100 available"? Could you give me one reason"? one can only assume that at that time there were 100 available. (and that they may make another 100 available) Its suitably ambigous, does not say limited to 100. At the end of day this will only affect the people who bought multiple copies to sell on. Anyone who bought it for the image etc should be happy that they have a poster signed by DH. ;D
Agreed and a big Ha Ha to those who bought a batch to flog on or sit on and sell at a later date ;D

I expect they have sold more than a 100 of each edition - PS - this test was carried out after 7 JD and cokes and a bottle of rose. s**t faced not dface ed - or a Banksy Moron

Damien Hirst Superstition Poster, by submit on Apr 18, 2007 19:05:47 GMT 1, I dont understand the controversy over this poster, especially why the people who say they didnt buy it.... even care enough to keep coming back to this thread to ridicule people who did. .. I got mine today, and I'm real happy with it. I bought the gold landscape. I will frame it and enjoy it. Never got the impression or even cared about its exclusivity and the price seemed pretty reasonable to me. Dont understand what the hubbub is all about.
