UK General Election 2010, by simonf on Jan 4, 2010 18:27:05 GMT 1, This s very true , but this would open up yet another loop whole and so many people just change religion for this reason Prehaps as harsh as it sounds we need to stop being so tolerent of people religion and actually put country before indiiduals , were all here you know... If you want money you work unless you cant , but im pretty sure. Religion affected by this could clean streets?. Paint walls> and not have issues from emplyers ?. but we see , and if this comes across racist at all, It was totally unintended and am not racist in anyways ,
it's in no way racist... you are talking about an ideology not a race.

You could also apply everything i have just said to kevin from Dagenham who became a hari krishna

UK General Election 2010, by simonf on Jan 4, 2010 18:31:31 GMT 1, I have often wondered if I converted to Jainism what would happen. Jains keep their face covered so as not to inhale and therfore kill insects. I wonder if I wore a Jain mask how I would be treated by the police in Heathrow ariport.... human rights officer, it's my religion.
In fact that is a great idea, become a Jain and never get a job again... sorted!

UK General Election 2010, by bubbleandsqueak on Jan 4, 2010 18:46:12 GMT 1, I have to say if tax payers money (ie mine) is given to people for free, then asking them to do some work for it (as i have to do) seems a persuasive argument. I agree although some people because of illness disability or even their religion might find it very hard to get proper work illness, disability, is a totally different thing, there is many taking advantage of thoes two words and should be ashamed of themselves- religion i dunno.
personally if i was in the position i would like to live some where like jersey, no daily jeremy kyle watchers or giro worth-shipers there. ;D

well when i said illness or disability, I meant people that were ill or disabled.
I didn't mean people who were pretending to be ill or disabled.
As for religion... I dunno myself! Either you accept someones right to look like a ninja if they want to and accept they will never be able to get a job but pay them anyway, or (as France appears to be doing at the moment and Belgium has already done) say you can't wear masks in public full stop... take it off.
Wearing masks is something i find strange, for example I find it a bit alarming that the man who murdered a police woman some time ago escaped the country to Pakistan via an international airport while carrying his sisters passport and wearing a burka.... it seems unbelievable. I have to say personally I am uneasy about the whole mask wearing business myself but until we as a democracy come up with a solution i guess I will just have to live with it.

UK General Election 2010, by grafik on Jan 4, 2010 19:30:15 GMT 1, Agree there would be different circumstances, and these would have to be addressed individually, as is down now with people claiming for disablities etc etc, so there will be people who cant work, But there would be huge numbers im sure who could work. Can i ask how would Religion affect this?. Well if your religion, for example. meant you had to wear a burkah.. so that only your eyes were showing, I would imagine it would be very difficult to get someone to give you a job. I can't think of many jobs where that would be considered acceptable. It would be against health and safety in a factory for example, and would be less than perfect for people working in customer relations, or has been proved in the courts lately teaching. In that instance it might be very hard to get a job. In which case, as a society that respects the individuals religion, the there would be little choice but to pay the person tax payers money whether they work or not.
that race/religion melarky is complete bullshit.. if you dont like the rules, fuck off somewhere else.. if you want to wear a burkah, go to a country where wearing one you can get a job.. if you want to walk around naked, go to a country where you can walk around naked. but dont try and change a country just to suit you. its a joke.
thats me over an out...

I couldn't have put it better myself! but it is not what is actually happening is it? So you propose we go down the route other countries have gone down, and ban the burka ? A fair enough point of view.... very tricky to get through parliament I would imagine, what with all the P.C. sensibilites, but I agree with you.... but can you imagine the reaction that sort of legislation would get?

UK General Election 2010, by Deleted on Jan 4, 2010 22:34:20 GMT 1, Grafik - thks for the invite to Thailand, I'll take you up on that one day. Would be only one of several countries where the ambient tempature would allow me to walk around naked!
Need to shift this thread away from the 'Burka' debate (even if you're fugly) as most societies run a permissive, democratic regime, to suggest a scenario like Saudi where women 'should be' covered up is regressive.

UK General Election 2010, by grafik on Jan 4, 2010 22:37:11 GMT 1, no i dont say ban anything.. i couldnt give a shit what you look like or what you want to dress as.. its just common sense.
pour example... in the middle east it is considered wrong etc for men to walk around in shorts, and for ladies to show their shoulders and also above the knee.. hence... in the middle east i dont walk around in shorts as it offends the locals, i dont kiss my girlfriend in public etc.. i realise i have no rights in that country as i am a expat (ok, i was born there etc, and have a passport). i also realise an omani will have more rights than me in business etc, if there is a job an omani will get it over me and im totally fine with that as its their country.. its a big thing at the moment called omanisation where they aim for 90% omanis employed in a company..
in thailand i dont raise my voice or get angry, i dont point my feet at people, i dont touch peoples heads.. i respect their way of life.
in england people just say they are being marginlised.. no shit you are, your not from there..
